Amazon developing Netflix-like service for video games
- Amazon is reportedly planning to leverage its cloud
computing service to offer a video game streaming platform starting next year. - This would add another major player into a space already occupied by Microsoft and Google. Additionally, it was leaked a few days ago that Verizon is quietly testing its own Netflix-style cloud gaming service (The Verge).
- Amazon currently leads the global cloud computing industry (32% of market), followed by Microsoft Azure (17%) and Google (8%). Amazon also owns live video game streaming platform Twitch, which hosts a thriving global community of gamers.
Comments
- Cloud gaming has huge disruptive implications for the console market as consoles could be rendered irrelevant and ultimately companies such as Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu could expand their offering to games.
- Successful experiments conducted by Nintendo and Ubisoft (streaming trial with Google) in Japan signal that streaming services are poised to expand. However, slow internet speeds and content-heavy triple A titles are likely to extend the life of consoles, which have absorbed years of threats from rival technologies.
Amazon has already gained over 12% in 2019
This company is truly amazing and the only thing I can see bringing it down would be a tougher regulation on both work conditions, Monopolies and Tax optimisation.
If none of these concerns materialize, Amazon could reach back its highs soon.

The Amazon is amazing... They are always trying to find a blue ocean.
Indeed, but competition will be tough on that one as other players are in the space. Most of the value will go to Video Games editor imo.

Yes, this is the future as Cloud Gaming is the future of gaming. Consoles are probably "dead".
