Walmart deciding to stop selling AR-15 style guns and now anything even toys resembling them!

in #investing6 years ago

Walmart, the biggest gun seller, announced late in the afternoon that it would not sell any gun to anyone under 21 years of age. It also said it would no longer sell items resembling assault-style rifles, including toys and air guns.

Not to be political but as an investor this just seems stupid. Walmart is removing the AR-15 style guns from their inventory (which I won't go into pro/anti gun here) but lets go into something we all should agree on, they are now saying they will stop selling any "toys" like airsoft rifles that resemble an ar-15 style gun. Are nerf rifles next? When I was 13 and got my first airsoft rifle it was super fun and I learned all about gun safety despite it being only a toy. How could this device that shoots plastic pellets be an issue? This seems like a slippery slope, are you going to stop selling movies that portray gun violence and video games like "Grand Theft Auto" and "Call of Duty" that actively teach about real guns and weapons and how to commit crimes? I think walmart is going a little to far, any other thoughts? I have been long WMT but this concerns me a bit...

I played Grand Theft Auto growing up, I remember the first time we stole a car in the game, bought drugs, picked up a hooker, then after paying her and having sex running her over and shooting her to death and stealing all the money she had on her (in the game). NEVER once did any of my friends or family think that was something we should do in REAL life! But I think that is FAR more dangerous than a toy gun that shoots plastic. The toy airsoft gun does not tell you the mission is to become a gang member. The airsoft gun does not have the basis of the toy be to murder people and become a criminal. Yet walmart still is selling Grand Theft Auto and many other games like it, easily on display and pushed to kids.

I feel they are going to far on this one. The debate on the AR-15 style gun is already one that is something many do not agree on, but to ban one style of toy over others, while movies and video games that portray and make the entire objective to be nothing other than murder, rape, and violence. Why are they not removing the music, movies, and video games that teach young children about guns, rape, sex, drugs, violence and other criminal behavior? What makes a fake gun the target?

So what are your thoughts? Did walmart go to far? Comment below and include the number you are voting for in my poll:

  1. Yes but I do not want to be political

  2. Yes but the AR-15 is not needed at their stores

  3. Yes and they shouldn't even stop selling the AR-15

  4. No but I do not want to be political

  5. No and they didn't go far enough

  6. No they are doing exactly the right thing

This is misplaced priority! The Florida shooter didn't use toy guns to propagate the offensive so I reaaly don't see any point stopping its sales.

They are worried they claim that a toy gun that resembles an AR-15 style gun will encourage kids to become mass shooters. Which is why I bring up the movies and video games like "Grand Theft Auto" that they sell in their stores still.. The NAME is GRAND THEFT AUTO which is a legal term for stealing a car worth over $1,000 USD.. The objective of the game is to take over the town as the biggest baddest criminal gang leader, pimping out women, selling drugs, and killing innocent people and law enforcement.. That isn't an issue though (and I don't think it is personally an issue these games do not cause the behavior)?

If it saves lives ... then so be it ....

What are your views on the toys and fake guns such as airsofts they are no longer going to sell? This post wasn't meant to address the AR-15 itself that is a very heated debate I do not want to host, but the toy versions and things of that nature. Do you feel they should be banning them or did they go too far?

I think it’s difficult to assess the impact of toy guns ... toys are toys. .. however if there is research backed my evidence suggesting otherwise. ... then it’s open for discussion.

So far they banned the sales online haven't heard anything about in-store sales. Maybe trying to prevent young kids from grabbing their parents credit card and buying them. eBay and Amazon are a much better place to buy those and get a better deal online though lol.

Let me start by saying Walmart is smart, this is why they CONTROL so much money! I think Walmart's people know they aren't stopping any violence just by stopping sale of the item's, I think its more of a publicity stunt. I also don't think that Walmart would stop the sale because they don't want to feel responsible for any shooting. They know that if someone wanted the gun, they can get it whether it can be legally sold in our country or not (like illegal drugs and illegal weapons like certain knifes or automatic modified firearms people still obtain them with ease) with all of this being said, I don't think they should stop selling the real or toy guns because they know they aren't stopping gun violence.... but maybe Walmart knows something about the future of gun laws that we don't know....
