Never lose your steemit password. My Introduction

Hello Steemit! I am eager to be a part of this community and learn my way around here. I had another account and created an introduction post, but I did not know about password security and lost access. I have now learned the first 6 rules of Steemit: do not lose your password.
My name is Kristen Cameron, I’m 31 years young and Canadian. I have spent the past 6 years developing and conquering a list of chronic pain conditions and have not let them beat my positivity yet. I have fibromyalgia, scoliosis, my C4 through C7 discs in my spine are herniated and pinching my C7 nerve. In February 2017, I fell on ice and fractured my arm. From this fall, I developed a rare condition called CRPS (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome) which is formerly known as RSD and Causalgia.
CRPS is rated on the McGill Pain Index as 42 out of 50, which is the highest chronic pain condition rating to date. It is above amputation of digits, non terminal cancer and other chronic pain conditions for point of reference only. It is a neurological pain condition that takes over many of the nervous systems controlling my brain. 18-24 hours a day of my brain saying “ouch that hurts” (when it’s just the wind, me breathing heavy, it realizing my arm exists or whatever the situation is) with retaliation of “no it doesn’t, hush up so I can carry on”. I can barely carry a conversation without my focus going to pain. It has been exhausting and overwhelming.
The pain is pretty persistent, like I said, it lasts 18-24 hours a day since February of 2017. There are a few hours here and there when I am able to sleep and my body can rest, those are the pain free hours of my day and I have to jump through hoops each night (not literally) to achieve this state.
Excluding the 36 hour stretch from treatment first or second time. What an amazing 36 hours those were.
I personally do not take pharmaceutical medication. I find they take over my personality too much and I can’t be the positive influence I want to be when on them. So I consume marijuana to have somewhat use of my dominant arm. I can’t consume at work or around work hours, so I have been varying between 1-3 hour shifts since August. August was a big month of treatment, hope and disappointment and I have not been the same since. More on that in later entries, this is just my introduction and I don’t want to bore you.
In June, I decided I needed to raise awareness and find medical research for CRPS to raise money for. I found a registered charity connected with such research and organized the first annual Walk to Conquer CRPS in my area. Over the radio, I reached 2 other patients in my position and together we raised $1,000! More on that adventure later too.
As I mentioned, I have not been the same since August. My pain levels are 30x higher than what they were, symptoms are spreading and the weather in Nova Scotia is freezing now that we are nearing November. I am on a waiting list for another pain specialist and this can take 2-5 years for patients in my area. I am needing to find a new career after 5 years at the same job, but with my limited everything, it has been difficult.
I have been continuously trying to enhance the quality of the moment for others though. That will never change. There is something good in everyday if you can find or create it. I used to hand write 'Smile' cards with positive quotes in them and leave them in various locations for people to find. When people found out I was behind the project, some shared with me the positive influence it had on them and their days. Some carry the cards in their wallets or at their desks as reminders to smile.
I lost the ability to draw or even write words that are legible most times, so I had to stop the smile cards. I started taking pictures of nature and asking friends for use of their images. I put inspiring quotes on those and share on Instagram and Facebook (and now here too so you all can smile and give feedback perhaps).
I try to think positive no matter the situation, but sometimes with my circumstances it is damn near impossible. The point is, I try. If I can try, then why can’t you? Or do you already? What is your trick to conquer the impossible and overwhelming situations?
Before being diagnosed with all of this: I organized community clean ups, was a business manager, worked/volunteered at a reptile zoo in my free time, I was a model and artist. It is very sad and upsetting to see what my body has taken from me in the past few years, it takes a serious toll on the brain and self esteem. But I continue staying positive most days and trying to inspire others to do so.
I am on my 3rd day of a Mindful Based Stress Reduction course, which is going to help me fine tune my mindful skills to hopefully help others in a more official way, but in the meantime, I inspire best I can.
Mother nature soothes my soul and I appreciate every aspect of her, except spiders, they terrify me still. Animals and colors naturally make me happy. Digital pleasures are UFC and Star Wars. Music is everything, I have music playing every opportunity I can. I listen to everything, but country is usually only in the summer, otherwise I love it all. Medicine for the People has been my current kick and they truly create medicine for my soul in their songs.
That’s me in a nutshell. I’m a positive person, living life in a body from hell but making the best of it.
I look forward to becoming a part of this community and sharing my story with you all. Hopefully one of you can be inspired to smile and make today a great day!
Positive thoughts,
-Kristen
