Life of Shannon

in #introduceyourself8 years ago (edited)

Hi guys!

Just today I was introduced to Steemit.com by @firepower, a friend I met through Facebook. Honestly, I am not really fond of myself opening up all over the internet, but I will give it a fair shot!

Born and raised in Amsterdam, carrying a fine Amsterdam accent through the years. I remember stories being told about me and a wasp, cracking my parents and their friends up. Once upon a time, there was a little Shannon being bothered by a wasp. She did not like wasps, not at all. Unfortunately, the wasp had different thoughts and flapping my arms around were not enough, eventually the flat Amsterdam accent rolled over her tiny lips, "Die klote wesp!" Google Translate tells me it would translate into "This fucking wasp," however in my opinion in Dutch it would be a little more friendly. The Amsterdam accent has always been following me. Once I got into Bachelor's of Communication and Multimedia Design, I found people from all over the country. "I don't have to ask you where you are from," they said jokingly - honestly, they really did not.

My parents divorced when I was still in primary school - props to my mom, because I honestly can't even remember them breaking up. We just moved somewhere else, and she told me I did not mind at all. Actually, I was kind of done with my present school career in the north part of Amsterdam, and I thought it would be about time I was going to change schools. This tiny wish of a tiny kid was soon crushed when she told me I was fine in the place I was. Oh. The relationship between my parent's have always been good, they talk, they laugh. Currently, my mom has an ex-boyfriend and my dad has been with his girlfriend for several years now. Did I tell you my mom's sister actually celebrated her birthday with my dad's girlfriend? Yeah, we are such a family. Everybody is welcome and sticks. My dad occasionally visits my mom's parents, and the other way around - it's all one big family.

I have two 18-year-old sisters - twins. And how much this might sound fun, it sometimes actually is. When you see them, you can't really tell to be honest. In my opinion, they rather look like a gay couple because they can't be with or without each other's company. For God's sake, they hold hands when we are doing groceries. I smile, roll my eyes and shake off the thought about how inseparable they are.

As I mentioned before, I study Communication and Multimedia Design. A bachelors evolving around startup ideas, web/app design and development. In my final year, in which I currently am, I had the chance to go abroad. I found a company called Interact.io, based in Berlin. Last year I moved to Berlin, stayed there untill the end of february and had an amazing time. For about a month I lived with 7 people in a teeny tiny apartment, I joined a Hackathon and won 1000 euros, we were once evacuated two times because they found a WWII bomb, I had endless nights of partying, drank cheap beers, eventually became part of an Indian community and made amazing friends! I really did love living there, and actually after my graduation I really want to go back for a little while before I will start my big trip around the world with my best friend.

Big trip? Yes sir! We are planning to follow the summer, visiting Australia, New Zealand, HAWAIII!, USA, Indonesia and Thailand. I'm really excited and trying to save up as much as possible in advance. During those travels I want to adapt the lifestyle of a digital nomad. Say what? Yes, a digital nomad. Basically it comes down to two terms: work and travel. During my trip I will be bringing my laptop along, allowing me to freelance on the road too. It will be a tough search for wifi, but hey, it's an adventure!

I guess this would be it for now! Cheers and thanks for reading, if you even got this far hehe.

Thanks Kevin :D

Welcome to Steemit Shannon! Great to see you posting here! I hope you find the website and the community to be a rewarding experience in the near future. :)

It's great to read your story here. But you forgot India from your list of places to visit! :P

I hope so too! I am very excited to see how this goes.

Haha, I will definitely be visiting India someday. It is on my bucketlist!

Awesome! :D

Wellcome Shannon!

Remember, when writing introductions it's common practice to publish at least one picture of yourself holding a piece of cardboard with your name written on it, and preferably with "steemit" written next to it.

This could seem like strange practice, but it's just to make sure that the writer of the introduction isn't actually somone hijacking a facebook users/a relatives/a "friends identity.

After all, this is the internet and we have seen some weird shit go down...

This isnt necessary in her case because I'm vouching for her authenticity. She's already a verified user and doesnt require a steemit verification. But I appreciate your concern and the fact that you are helping out the community. Thanks.

Welcome to Steemit. I don't think it will be that hard to find Wifi these days. A friend of mine also lives the digital nomad life, and spends a lot of time in Thailand, but I've never heard her mention any problem with internet connectivity. I look forward to hearing some of your adventure stories

Hey hey ! Nice to meet you ! Couldn't find anybody better than @firepower to introduce to our awesome community and friends . Can't wait to read more . Hello via Bali from an Austrian . Will visit Amsterdam in October again :)
