there is definitely too few Science Fiction out there on the Steem blockchain! So the idea is to bring you from time to time interesting news in science, fiction, but mostly science fiction!
If you could find this interesting, stay tuned!

By the way, I am not a native Englishman, so if you find any grammer or idiomatic mistakes, you can keep them 😊

es gibt definitiv zuwenig Science Fiction hier auf der Steem blockchain, besonders auf deutsch! Daher die Idee, Euch ab und zu Interessantes auch aus der Welt der Wissenschaft, aber vor allem über Science Fiction zu bringen!

Ich bin deutschsprechend, werde aber vermutlich bilingual schreiben (bis sich eine genügend große deutsche SF-Communiy gebildet hat 😊.

This week in Geneva a conference with participants from 75 country takes place to discuss ways to define and deal with socalled "killer robots" – autonomous weapons systems that, “once activated, can select and engage targets without further intervention by a human operator“ (2012 US Dep. of Defense definition (https://www.hsdl.org/?abstract&did=726163). Or simply put, something what could evolve into a kind of „Skynet“ in the „Terminator“ SF-movies.

Many critics and Amnesty International urged countries to work toward a ban. Also Elon Musk said that „artificial intelligence is more of a risk to the world than is North Korea“ and calls for ban on killer robots before ‘weapons of terror’ are unleashed source.

Diese Woche findet in Genf eine Konferenz der UNO statt, bei der Vertreter aus 75 Nationen darüber diskutieren, wie sich sog. „Killer Roboter“ definieren und regulieren lassen, also nach einer US-Definition (https://www.hsdl.org/?abstract&did=726163) aus 2012 „autonome Waffensysteme, die, einmal aktiviert, Ziele selektieren und zerstören können ohne weitere menschliche Intervention.“. Oder, einfacher ausgedrückt, etwas, das sich in eine Art „Skynet“ aus den „Terminator“-Filmen entwickeln könnte.

Viele Kritiker und auch Amn. International drängen die Länder, eine komplette Ächtung zu erwirken. Auch Elon Musk meinte, dass AI „gefährlicher für die Welt ist als Nordkorea“ und verlangte einen Bann von Killer-Robotern „bevor sich Waffen des Schreckens in der Welt ausbreiten!“Quelle.

Others are against a ban, for example – quite concerning - all permanent UN Security Council member states, except China, which is supporting a ban on deploying killer robots, but not on developing them (https://themoscowtimes.com/news/russia-opposes-killer-robot-ban-media-reports-62541).

This is not SciFi. While you are reading this, some sort of intelligent machines are already in place, such as Samsung´s “security guard robots” in the demilitarized zone between South and North Korea. Israel recently deployed semi-autonomous drones to fire tear gas at protesters in Gaza. And the development is making huge progress, like AI does. In 5 to 10 years it may be too late to start thinking about regulations. So good that the UN is at least discussing the topic already now.

Das ist nicht mehr Science Fiction! Während Du das hier liest, sind autonome Waffensysteme bereits im Einsatz, zum Beispiel die “security guard robots” von Samsung in der demilitarisierten Zone zwischen Süd- und Nordkorea. Israel hat kürzlich semi-autonome Drohnen gestartet, um Tränengas an Protestierende in Gaza. Und die Entwicklung schreitet rasant voran, im Einklang mit der Entwicklung der AI. In 5 bis 10 Jahren wird es eventuell zu spät sein, über eine Regulierung nachzudenken. Daher gut, dass sich die UNO bereits jetzt Gedanken macht.
