#Introduceyourself – Natalie du Toit, an avid sportsperson and believer in “Levelling the playing field”, somehow, somewhere, sometime by merging business and sport.

Hallo SteemIt Friends. My name is Natalie du Toit - Born on the 29 January 1984 in Cape Town South Africa, and yes, I believe I lie on the cusp of two generations, something which I believe serves a positive in my life.

I started swimming and winning at an early age and having competed at the Kuala Lumpur Games in 1998 as an able-bodied athlete, at the age of 16, I lost my leg in a motorcycle accident. Despite this setback, I was determined to compete at the Manchester Games both as an able-bodied and disabled competitor just to prove it could be done. My goals started to be realised and I achieved an eight place in the able-bodied 800m Freestyle, winning gold in the 50 and 100m Elite Athletes with Disability (EAD) events.

On the 3rd May 2008, I competed in the Open Water World Championships in Seville Spain. My 4th place guaranteed me a place at the Beijing Olympics and I finally realised my ultimate dream.

I reportedly made history on the 20th August 2008, when I was the first disabled swimmer to dive into the Shunyi Rowing Basin in Beijing. As number 23 I competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games 1st 10km women open water marathon. My 16th Place was marked as a most remarkable effort by my fellow Open water competitors and media from all over the world were interested in this historic race.

To me and my team though, the hard work, obstacles and challenges had finally culminated in something magical, We, had achieved our dream. I have always been taught to give back knowledge and experience and work as hard as I possibly can.

After many a nomination, awards, leadership roles, speaking events nationally and internationally and competing at 3 Paralympic Games and 1 Olympic, I was able to retire in 2012. We as a team had come full circle.

Retirement saw me leave the swimming industry, something that has always been a goal, allowing me to focus on venturing into the business world.

In 2014, I started my working life in Reputation Management, focusing on the social media industry. A show called Women.Sports.Talk on SuperSport 4 was born in 2015 – a first of its kind in South Africa that sees Cynthia Tshaka piloting a show all about women’s issues in sport with me as an in-field presenter.

Sport will always remain dear to my heart and I have understood that people associate me with the sporting industry, hence the sports show, the ambassadorial role as a Laureus Ambassador and the events alongside Innocomm SA. My latest quest is being part of a team that will be Merging cryptocurrency with real-world human behaviour, to level the playing field whilst generating vast revenue.

I am currently studying a B. Com degree in Business Management through the Da Vinci Institute, a mode two learning institute which has proved very useful in my latest quest at Innocomm SA.

Looking to the future, I wish to inspire all South African’s young and old that anything is achievable by achieving against all odds with my lifelong dream to focus on the management and strategizing of social media with a return on investment that is further harnessed by being an influencer.

Hi and welcome to Steemit ✌️

Thank you xels. It is much appreciated ;-)

Welcome to Steemit. And thanks for giving us an overview of your inspiring story so far.

With your drive and ambition, you are certain to do well on this wonderful platform.

Below are a few points of advice re posting on Steemit.

  1. Longer posts are more lucrative than short posts. If you make a post of 20–30 paragraphs, it's more likely to earn rewards.
  2. Include some photos, images or graphs, to complement the text.
  3. Make sure the text and photos are formatted properly, so that your post looks attractive and appealing.

Hope this helps for now. Good luck, and Full Steem Ahead!

Hallo @majes.tytyty apologies for not responding to you sooner. I had mistaken you for a bot. Steep learning curve for the beginner. Your advice is fantastic, thank you! It is awesome to be shown some of the ropes as it is not always easy to navigate. It is a challenge blogging often, but I will really give it a go as it is something I have wanted to do for a while.
Thank you for making me feel welcome and like part of the family/community. Best Wishes.

No problem with the delay. But that's the first time I've ever been mistaken for a bot. :-)

I know it's a steep learning curve, especially for a tech-phobe like me. So, glad to help and give advice.

Here are a few more helpful hints.

  1. Be yourself.
  2. Be interesting and informative.
  3. Create quality content. Steemit is intended to be a platform of quality content. (You will see many insignificant posts with meager content and no quality. Most of those of posts [called “shitposts” by Steemit whale Stellabelle] will earn few rewards and soon pass into oblivion.)

As for growing your presence on Steemit, here's one point:
The best way to attract followers is to glance through the various feeds (People you follow (Under the Steemit Beta icon), Trending, New, Hot, Promoted), and find posts that interest you. There are many trivial posts that really have little content of any value, but among that stream, you will find plenty of good and even great posts.

When you find such posts, UPVOTE those you like, COMMENT on them, and then maybe REPLY to any replies that you get. Soon, you will see the number of your followers increase.

Cheers, and let's CHAT sometime soon.

Thank you @majes.tytyty. Valuable input ;-)

@majes.tytyty Wish someone shared this with me :) thank you anyways! Best wishes - @splendorhub.

You are welcome.

As a (former) teacher, I always like to help people learn and guide them on the path. And as a (new) Steemian, I'm doing whatever I can to build a great community on this platform.

Here are a few more points that might help you:

  1. Be yourself.

Hope you can make plenty of posts with true staying power.

@majes.tytyty your advice is greatly appreciated. I had always wanted to start a blog and this platform is just perfect for me. My interest is so broad that if you stay tuned you might enjoy it.Best wishes. Thank you again.

I had tried blogging before, but never found a decent platform or a supportive community. Now, here it is!

Cheers, and let's not bother dear Nats with our chatter anymore. Let's be in touch on our own comment thread.
