I'm Blockchain Bound and Bringing You With Me

I have spent most of my life living on two different ends of a spectrum. On one side I'm a nerdy technology obsessed early adopter of nic-nacs who wastes hours diving into subreddits and ignoring the draws of the social(real) world. On the other side I'm an explorer, who runs away to the mountains to let go of the everyday stress and find peace exploring #nature, snowboarding, and just breathing. But for the last year I have found myself deviating from this normal yin and yang of my normal routine and instead putting my focus towards one thing only - #blockchain. Looking back on how I got here to #Steem is really drawing back the curtain on my journey to follow my passions and escape the 9-5.

Full Throttle

My father got our family an Apple II GS complete with a copy of Full Throttle by LucasArts and an ImageWriter II printer that was really a glorified typewriter. Our family of five worked that computer into dust, mostly because my mother believed that having more than one computer in the house was a ridiculous concept, but also because my brothers and I would spent hours glued to the screen playing, mostly playing ALF.

As I got a bit older I started to put work in on the ImageWriter II too. School papers were a breeze and it definitely beat using the typewriter that I had been using. The ease of use meant I started to really enjoy writing. Unfortunately, I directed that energy towards forums, AIM chat, Myspace, text messages and only occasionally published a blog on LiveJournal.

Nature Nurtures

The time we didn't spend indoors was spent on family trips to Yosemite, The Grand Canyon, or numerous other postcard destinations. My parents instilled a sense of adventure in me and taught me that only I know the path that my life will take. During the winter we would spent most weekends in Big Bear skiing and staying in cabins with friends and that love of skiing and the outdoors never left has become a form of meditation for me.

Always Be Learning

When I was old enough to attend college I knew I wanted to get an Entrepreneurship degree and that I wanted to be somewhere close to the mountains. I decided on CSU Chico situated comfortably in the hills above Sacramento California and spent the next three years having the quintessential college experience. I partied, studied, and nerded out, but mostly I snowboarded. This is really where my life dichotomy of nature versus technology took hold.

Digital Habits

Thankfully by my college years I had started at least one healthy habit of writing macros for the MMORPG's I was playing in between my busy schedule of booze and boarding. I started by writing macros to help me raise skills for my characters in Ultima Online and eventually was writing much more complicated macros for EVE Online and selling them through my online businesses MMO Evolution and Gold Harvest Macro Solutions. These macros have the basic purpose of producing gold or other resources that we would then sell on IGN or Ebay for fiat($). I didn't know it at the time but writing these macros gave me an understanding of scarcity and digital economies that would come in handy in the world we are building today.

Nomad

After graduating from Chico State I followed my dreams and moved to Tahoe to spend the winter living in a cab-over camper outside of Alpine Meadows Resort. I hadn't found my purpose in life, but I knew I wanted to be a digital nomad, whatever that meant. After a few years of chasing my own tail, I set my eyes on San Diego to pursue Data Science at UCSD.

Feeling Bullish

It was at this point that I heard about bitcoin for the second time, and it during the bull run of last December and I did what many people did - I FOMO'd in, just not in the usual way. I FOMO'd into the community and the thirst for knowledge that I saw developing around this technology that now seemed very similar to the macros I had been writing for years. I started by investing, reading, and listening to podcasts before expanding into DApps. Now I find myself spending most of my day researching and writing which feels like exactly where I want to be. That is when I am not hanging out with my rescue dog Barklie and taking him on all the amazing hikes and camping we have in southern California.

Barklie is a Border-Collie Mix and loyal as they come

How Can I Help

This intersection between digital freedom and the technology underlying it is where I have found my new home and where I hope to add value in my own unique way. The opportunity to have true scarcity and a friction-less, border-less store of value is life changing and is an inspiring topic to explore as a writer. Thinking about the possibilities of a border-less, trust-less world helps me take better pictures, seems to improve my meditation, and definitely improves my writing. It is my hope that by all of us putting so much passion into changing the world that the result has no choice but to be positive. Thank you for allowing a space to share this journey steemians!

Hey @felblob
Welcome to the Steem blockchain.
I found your post through the awesome girls from the @heyhaveyamet initiative.

Reading your introductory post, I believe you have a lot to contribute to this blockchain, Unfortunately, the resource credits system has made it difficult for newcomers to get started, so I decided to give you a little extra freedom to post, like and engage with the community by sharing some of my Steem Power with you, so you won't run out of RC that quickly anymore.

However, keep in mind you're not completely safe from running out of RC. Keep an eye on the amount of RC credits you have left on https://steemd.com/@felblob.
Also, I recommend keeping an eye on your voting power (you can do this here: https://steemworld.org/@felblob). Your voting power regenerates over time, but it is recommended to keep it above 80% (so it can regenerate entirely and be back at 100% in one day).

When you first start on SteemIt, there's a lot to learn. Things might seem very overwhelming in the beginning. But from your post I learn you're not afraid of new challenges, so I think you will do just fine here.

I think @paramimd, @brittandjosie and @xcountytravelers have given you some good tips to get started on here. If I can add one: don't get scared off by the steep learning curve SteemIt has. Take things one step at time. If you're here for the long run, you'll have all the time in the world to learn everything you need to know. There's no need to rush.

Once you manage to struggle (yes, struggle, lol) yourself through those first couple of weeks, you'll find out what an amazing community we have here, one that is well worth overcoming all difficulties you face here as a beginner.

And if you have questions, feel free to ask.

One last thing: it would be very useful to get a Discord account. If you're not familiar with Discord (but something tells me you are), it's a chatting app that can be considered as the 'behind the scenes' of SteemIt. Every community has its own channel, and it's a great way to get to know other Steemians, and to build your network, which is like one of the most important things to do if you want to survive here.
I see @xcountytravelers has already invited you to join the Steem Terminal channel, of which I think it's a good place to start.

Anyways, to avoid overwhelming you with information myself, I'll stop here. I hope you're willing to take up the challenge and find your way in the SteemIt ecosystem. Like I said, it's definitely worth it. :0)

Thank you for the shout out! (Both as Steem Terminal and @xcountytravelers). We hope to hear from him soon in the Steem Terminal.

Good morning @simplymike, I was wondering why I woke up to 100 SP!I really appreciate it because it was hard waiting so long in between replying to posts. The biggest hurdle for me wasn't the learning curve but just not having prompts on steemit to warn me that I shouldn't be posting that much. Once I downloaded partiko it all started to make sense. I will get myself into some groups including terminal because everyone talks highly of the discord chats. I'm here for the long haul and I'm already starting my next post!

Great to hear that. :0)

One of SteemIt's many flaws: lack of information.
I got here long before the implementation of RC, so I can't imagine what it must be like to be so limited when it comes to posting and replying. I don't know what they were thinking when they introduced RC, because it was basically like shutting the door for newcomers. So I started delegating a little SP to people of whom I thought might do good here, to give them a chance to get to know the community.

Hi and welcome! Dang there's a lot of great links in this post.

Aren't there?? I have dozens of resources to dive into just from here.

Welcome! I agree, the idea of being free of borders is inspiring indeed. I, too, am a nature and adventure lover. And Barklie is adorable! Glad to see you here. I hope you'll enjoy your blockchain journey and find some great communities as well. Are you on Discord? It's like Steem's coffee shop for hanging out. ;) I spend a decent bit of time in @thealliance server. Would love to see you there.

Glad to be here too - so far I have met a lot of open minded people and been introduced to dozens of communities. I am on discord often actually so I will hop into @thealliance next time I am on. Oh and Barklie is definitely a looker and happens to be my best frisnd as well!

amazing intro post, Im already looking forward to more of your content, and I had a look back at your other posts too.

Coming to steem with knowledge of blockchain is good. I have worked online (digital economics) for a long time now, the trick is, make once, sell many times lol, but it sound like you know that already.

I found your profile via @heyhaveyamet, welcome to steem. it can be hard to get your head around everthing when you start out here.
I have a free course for newbies, and if you complete it and send me a message, i will delegate you some SP to increase your resource credits

I'm glad found some value in the post. I've been dipping into the e-commerce pool for a while now, I honestly don't know how i avoided steem this long. Im going to take your course here soon. It's on the list!

great stuff, I look forward to seeing you in the course, I think you and I will get on good :-) have a wonderful weekend

Welcome to the blockchain, @felblob.

wastes hours diving into subreddits

This is me_irl. ;)

Now, my focus is here (mostly) as I crusade with the good folks of this platform against blockchain greed, manipulation and deception.

It's pretty much my passion at the moment but it is not without it's frustration. Steem is a wonderful technology but don't be fooled by any false positivity. It's not all ⛅ and 🌈 s

I would be lying to you if I didn't tell you this place was riddled with problems and you may observe this via my reports which are often a mix of biting sarcasm, satire and techno mumbo jumbo.

My heart is one that loves to serve the humble and oppose the proud. I use tech to achieve this. There are a number of various tribes and factions on this platform.

Some are 🦈s. Some are 🐋 a. Some care about the bigger picture. Some care about bottom line. It's a cross section of humanity if I ever saw one.

I would welcome you to our community at @steemflagrewards if you have any affinity for truth, justice, memes and getting paid to fight spam and such.

I believe we have a interesting bunch of characters among us with a variety of talents and would be thrilled if you would consider joining our ranks.

I don't want to link bomb so if interested check out the profile for the Discord link.

Thanks for the kind words. I will make my way over to @steemflagrewards this weekend. I definitely see the various tribes and personalities and I can tell I still have a lot to learn. I will have to read a couple of your reports to help get up to speed!

Hi. Welcome.

I laughed when you wrote about your first computer. Mine was an Apple IIc. I certainly also remember those old LucasArts games..... Monkey Island and all those.

Looking forward to seeing more of your work on here.

Galactic Empire.

Glad you enjoyed the intro! Monkey Island is another great one. Something about not having internet made that genre much more special as well as the huge awesome game boxes and manuals.

Hi. The problem is how you like your state :)

Nice to see another MMORPG player over here :) Guild wars 1 and 2, WoW, EvE, Blade and soul over here! What kind of macros did you create for EvE, maybe I've used some... even though I didn't play that much, the whole learning curve + mining bots made it kinda hard to actually make a dent at the game, and the pay to play was also not really fun and I wasn't able to farm PLEXEs (that's what they are called right?)

Sorry if mining bots negatively affected ur fun. I made them for my friend and I to start just to compete. I played guild wars, Wow, eve, and many others like daoc, ultima, ddo online..
I made mining macros that were highly custom and undetectable macro due to their use of OCR and AI and no use of memory or the like. It was tailored for disabled gamers and was not illegal because of its structure. It is still sold today although by my former programmer who stole the code.

At one point the login screen on eve warned against using GHMS macros and that made us very popular. We offered PLEX for cheaper than you could buy them from the devs because we purchased them in bulk using $ sold to us by our miners. Fun times!

Damn, I hope you made a good amount of cash with that! The only person I know that sold PLEXs was that markydragon guy, but I think CCP allowed him to sell the PLEXs because he was one of the main players and really well known...

Now, get those macro building skills working for STEEM :) Make this whole blockchain better and you will be rewarded for it :) Welcome @felblob

I don't think they were plex when I sold them, it was after the game cards that they introduced plex to curb the secondary market.
