Hello fellow Steemians! I am Andrei, a.k.a. the Broke Traveller.

Here goes my first post on this intriguing, new kind of social network. I am a 28 year old living, studying and working in Copenhagen. I came across the Steemit project recently, part of my search into concurrency and it immediately struck me as one of the coolest innovations to the crypto market since Bitcoin, putting social media together with the power of the blockchain is an interesting proposition. Being fed up with the likes of Facebook, G+ and other social media channels, I was glad to see there is a more exciting concept out there. I'm not sure how a world where Steemit would be mainstream would look like, but here I am along for the ride with no real expectations or validation needs, but with a genuine curiosity into how things will turn out for the Steem project.

Over the years, I lived in:

My native Romania (of which I am very fond of)

And now, Denmark.

Copenhagen is a city which I stumbled upon whilst visiting a friend some years ago and decided to make it my home for a while. I was, as others, immediately charmed by its original atmosphere and distinct flavor. Since I have quite a passion for photography I was thinking of sharing more of this city with the world along with other cities and destinations that I've been fortunate enough to see and experience so far.

Not sure what it is that I can offer this community and add value to this platform but I am hoping on having a clearer idea once I discover more of the possibilities that this platform may offer. I am thinking of doing some weekly blog posts structured as journals or guides, focusing on quality rather than frequency. All images are my own unless otherwise stated.

  • Quirky sign for a phone repairs shop on Frederiksborggade, Copenhagen.

The posts will be about things close to my heart such as: the outdoors, mountaineering & climbing, photography & street art, and potentially some other "gems" and general quirkiness that I might have come across during my travels. I like to keep it local and leave nothing behind except footprints whilst taking but photographs back of the natural world. What I want to do with it is share quality, original material, tips and images for the world to see, and also to interact with like-minded people. I appreciate any suggestions that might help improve my skills and would like to answer as many questions as time allows me.

  • Admiring some Moroccan contrasts on the way up to Mount Jbel Toubkal.

Can't really say how much time I can commit to this since I also have to deal with my thesis writing that I am doing for my Tourism Masters, work as well as other projects. I do have to admit that seeing if this sparks peoples interest seems appealing to me as a testing ground of sorts for my writing, photography and story-telling skills. I haven't written all that many blog posts apart from my time working as an intern for the Amsterdam based SpottedByLocals network of city blogs a while back.

Many thanks for those of you that read my introduction and sorry for the long post!

Till the next one, I wish you all the best and carry on Steeming!

Thanks man! I will. :)

Very nice photos, I didn't know POPEYE VILLAGE actually existed!

Thanks! It does, they made if as a film set to shoot the musical but it is operating as a tourist attraction nowadays.

Welcome to Steemit! Great introduction and I love your pictures! I'm looking forward to seeing more of those!

Thank you! I am glad you like it!

Beautiful pictures, Sir.

May I ask what kind of camera you used? Any photoshop (color overlay etc.) that was done here?

Thanks! Well, I used a Nikon D700 for most of them (one is from my old Nikon D40). I mostly use a Nikkor 24-85mm 3.5-4.5 G ED and a Nikkor 50mm 1.8D together with a Manfrotto 290 Light tripod. Best I could afford on a student budget really, but I am quite happy with the gear. I only shoot RAW which I import into Lightroom v5.5 and rarely do much to. Mostly fix the white balance a bit (mostly on indoor stuff or night time pictures), sometimes I use Shadows and Highlights and maybe a graduated filter for the times I didn't have a physical one on the camera... Not a huge fan of going all out on editing, I much rather get it right straight in the camera. I am really lazy when it comes to fiddling with images and it takes too much time. These images I resized, and they lost a lot of quality. I will put up some finer ones in my future posts.

Thank you for that great explanation!

You're welcome!

Hey Andrei, welcome to Steem! :-)

Cheers! :)
