Overfeeding and Intermittent Fasting - [Video]

In a 3 minute video response, I explore the following question:

  • What happens when you fast for 24 hours, then you eat one very big meal and you end up feeling stuffed and bloated?
  • Is this normal?

The short response: Yes, it's normal especially if you are not used to consuming very large meals in one sitting, like in the case of trying to eat all your maintenance calories for a day (say 2,000 to 2,500 kcals) in a meal. Chances are you will be bloated, but if you do it recurrently, this may go away. For the more elaborate response, please watch the video.

That is so interesting, @cristi! Very useful Q&A.

what's so interesting?

I meant to the two questions you mentioned in your post:
-What happens when you fast for 24 hours, then you eat one very big meal and you end up feeling stuffed and bloated?

-Is this normal?

I'm interested in doina 3 days water fast from a non-keto diet. Any thoughts on that?

you mean going into a water fast for 3 days from a non-keto diet? it could be a little though, especially if you're not used to fasting. glycogen depletion usually occurs in 24-36 hours and this is probably when it's most challenging (this is from my own experience). I'd rather experiment with shorter (like 24 hour) fast until that seems easier to do; and thereafter progress into 'harder' variations of prolonged fasting. I might elaborate via video.

I'm already comfortable with 18 hours fasts so I'd think I can take it. but gonna try a 24 hours one first.
