Pride & Prejudice in 2018 : Social introverts

in #inspiration6 years ago (edited)

Our prejudices can be considered both as an advantage and disadvantage. They are based on our previous experience and knowledge and with the help of the neurons in our brains we can easily differentiate irrational from rational and dangerous from safety.
When it comes to people though we tend to judge too soon and put extremely large amounts of labels on them.
“Introvert” is a comparatively old term in the field of psychology that was initially introduced by Carl Jung in 1916. However, only in the last few years the term is starting to gather more interest.

“Introvert comes from Latin intro-, "inward," and vertere, "turning." It describes a person who tends to turn inward mentally. Introverts sometimes avoid large groups of people, feeling more energized by time alone.” (according to www.vocabulary.com)

And you see, the key word here is “sometimes”, because there are no absolute introverts or extroverts. Otherwise there would be too much lunatics out in the world.
But those people are struggling every day to explain what do they feel, how do they feel it, what is their behaviour and many others. On a daily basis they are colliding with other people that not only seem to not understand them but harshly judge them too.
Trying to explain that they can be intrigued and exhausted by people at the same time and that “social introvert” is not an oxymoron but a real psychology term.
Their necessity of alone time and recovery days often gets misunderstood only because they realize that human body, soul and spirit sometimes have to refill batteries. And how absolutely normal it is to get tired of small talks and other people energy.
And we can only imagine the awkward situations they are being dragged into. Having to explain the essentials and the differences between an extrovert and an introvert and how they operate, what mindset do they have and what are the peculiarities of their nature.
And after all that having to answer why you don’t look so shy and what are you even doing here just sounds totally wrong. And is absolutely shameful for everyone judging so shallow...

The fascination in observing the world for a while is just something to be admired for.

Because from time to time there is something magical in sitting quietly and watching the rest of the world spinning around. If you look closer you can even find wisdom in that.

In a Ted Talk in 2012 the American writer and lecturer - Susan Cain explains about the power of introverts and how important for the society they actually are.
She is giving examples with some of the greatest people in history like Darwin, Theodor Geisel also known as Dr. Seuss and Steve Wozniak - the co-founder and developer of Apple that admit their introvert nature.
They have their alone time, they walk around the forest or the mountain all by themselves and they tend to overthink a lot. But those are not necessarily bad things. They shouldn’t be.
Of course here comes the logical question if creativity has something to do with solitude?
Well, not only it has, but you can say that it is vital for the creativity to exist. Because when you have that peaceful and silent atmosphere around, you can channel all of your time, efforts and energy into the process of creation. You can dig deeper in your mind and soul and if you look closely you will find knowledge and creativity.
And this is not about being social that is too much, but is definitely not enough. In search of balance between those two comes the truth.

So in some way you can say that we all have something to learn from the introverts. We can spend more time quietly alone with our thought so we can refill, rethink and recharge ourselves.

This one is fantastic. I don't know who I'm actually. Am I an extrovert or am I an introvert? Because I've both of those quality. When I meet with my friends and the person I like, I talk a lot. But most of the time I keep quait. I don't like to meet with new people. I feel bore.
After reading this, Now I think who I'm am it doesn't matter. Matter is what can I do. Thanks for such an amazing article like this one. Hope many more will come. Thanks again.
