A story about determination, desire and positive thinking

in #inspiration6 years ago

Good morning all. This post is about a man we all know, and most of us love - Mr Steven Spielberg:

Steven Spielberg, is as we all know, one of the greatest film directors of all time, with movies like Jaws, Indiana Jones, The Empire of the Sun and E.T to his credit.

He dreamed of being a film director since his early childhood, and started making amateur films on an old camera when he was still a child and the dream never subsided - it got stronger...

The story of how he broke into Universal Studios is legendary in the movie industry, and a perfect example of positive thinking, and how the more you think about something, the more likely it is going to materialise.

He took a job as a clerical intern at the Universal Studios one summer, after which he enrolled in Cal State, Long Beach. He quickly became bored with his classes and dropped out, he then began to hang around at the Universal Studios lot.

Sure that the gate guard would recognise him after having been in and out for the entire summer previous, he donned a suit and went back to the studio every day for three months, always waving at the guard, who waved back.

He made a point of speaking to and becoming friends with directors, editors and writers. Eventually, having been on the lot so much, he had people believing he was working for someone.
He made it his business to get to know Sid Sheinberg, who was the head of production for the studios TV arm at the time.

Taking his college film project to him, which was shot on 8mm film, he was told by the studio executives that they would only watch it if it was shot on 16mm.
Steven went back and shot the film again, this time on 16mm film, but when he took it back to the studio executives, they told him he had to present it on 35mm before they would watch it.

Undeterred, Seven went back and made the film, which was 26min long and called Amblin, on a 35mm camera which he rented and presented it to the studio execs once again.
The were so impressed by his determination that they agreed to watch it. The film won him a 7 year contract with the studio to direct TV and film.

Steven Spielberg has made some of the most successful movies in the history of the industry, and from such humble beginnings!!

His rise to success started with a BURNING DESIRE to become a film director, he never gave up on his dream and today he dreams on - when he and two other Hollywood players created their own production company, they called it Dreamworks.

Stay positive and never give up on your dreams :)

No probs... I think it is important to think positive. Maybe if all of us Saffas did, we would have a fighting chance at a better future for our kids :)
Thanks for reading and commenting!

Thanks for sharing, I really did not know that about him. Such a determined and talented guy!

Unbelievable, the tenacity and sheer will to succeed! His story is so much longer, the hurdles he had to surmount would have made a lesser man give up...
Thanks for your comment :)

Have watched many of his movies and thoroughly enjoyed them, this piece of history I did not know, very interesting @freewheeler

Hi Joan... He's probably the most successful director of all time. Truly brilliant.
