YouTube Caught Spoofing User Comments?

in #informationwar5 years ago (edited)

Today, I stumbled upon a YouTuber called Taofledermaus, and from the look of the uploaded videos, it appears it’s a gun and ammo themed channel. The man in the video, Jeff, records himself submitting a few comments on YouTube. The text of the first comment is as follows.

"This definitely if from an era when atomic power was the solution for everything."

After he entered the comment it changed itself in real time to:

"This would definitely be a solution for everything."

The video appears to be genuine, and it seems he captured something shocking and this got me thinking about the various algorithms used to censor content. What most of us might not have thought possible, is would these companies alter the words we’ve typed after the fact?

Now if many people noticed that YouTube was altering their comments in the immediate sense, the illusion would fail and nobody would trust the company. However, if after having submitted a comment it’s later altered to conform with some overarching agenda, then things could get very spooky indeed.

When you read the name of the video he commented on: 'America’s Big Stick & Doomsday Weapon' think of that title and compare it to the two comments, and then ask yourself which response seems more appropriate, his comment or the words YouTube allegedly put into his mouth?

video title: "America’s Big Stick & Doomsday Weapon."
comment: "This definitely if from an era when atomic power was the solution for everything."

compared to:

video title: "America’s Big Stick & Doomsday Weapon."
comment: "This would definitely be a solution for everything."

As you can see, the second comment makes the pro-gun YouTuber look like he's in favor of the doomsday weapon. Now, if this video is real, I don’t see a legitimate reason why YouTube would need to alter the content of anyone’s comments.

Yet, the conspiracy theorist in me thinks this kind of algorithm has the potential to be used for character assassination. Imagine a world where the history of what you’ve written can be re-written on the fly and depending on its implementation you might be none the wiser. I hope if this is real that more people will record and report on it.

It is disturbing that YouTube has started on that level of control over comments... They really must be losing the narrative if they are now making it that flagrant.

Think how easy it would be for them to change your comments; label you a terrorist;
Drag you off to a FEMA camp, where they will likely terminate you;

naw i'm just kidding, that would never happen in Merica...

Yes I saw this as well .. highly disturbing that they are so brazen in their attempts to control the narrative! In many ways, the net is becoming a complete inversion of what the majority of people think.

Yes, and steemit just "fixed" it's algorithm to edit posts and comments indefinitely... Ever wonder Why we have google as a search engine?

That is an EXCELLENT question. I do understand the logic of adding google search algorithm, probably to maintain a better standing within the algorithm, make it so outsiders can more easily find the site...

However, there REALLY should be an internal search engine, the reason being is that could have different search parameters. Ex: Are you looking for a user, a blog, a blog topic, a dtube video, etc... where the best we can do is search for tags and well, users returns results, but looking for a specific post seems like you really need the title verbatim.

i was under the impression that posts do not last forever on the blockchain unless they continue to get votes from time to time, am i wrong?

My understanding, which I'm not an authority in any way, haven't looked at the code, and only have a barebones grasp of blockchain... but my understanding was that this was part of why the editing was limited to the week, after the week they get loaded to the blockchain where they are logged indefinitely...

i see, i guess i just thought not everything was worth saving, and there was some sort of weeding process, but i think you're right that everything is / must be saved..

It's just odd, that you can't hardly find one of your own posts from a year ago, but you can edit the son of a bitch....
Seems fishy in light of YT's dirty work..

i'm just sayin' ,
