In defense of freedom of speech

in #informationwar6 years ago

I'm not so fond of hate speech (and the like). There was this guy who thought putting a video on youtube where he kept telling his dog to 'gas the jews' was funny. Something I don't think will ever approach being funny, personally. He wanted controversy obviously then cried when he got fined by the courts. WW2 (at least elements of it) will never be a laughing matter in my eyes .

Yeah, that video was not funny, it was hilarious! Wow, so if you don't think it's funny then it should be a crime? It was funny, he should have every right to make that video and shame on you for supporting the sanctions against him. His video didn't hurt anyone.
One problem is that "hate speech" is whatever you don't feel is funny at the time. The other problem is what we see in your country with deeming political speech to be hate speech, we see that in Canada too, a city just banned the Anarchy symbol, declaring it a hate speech.
So when they want to implement Sharia law it will be hate speech to speak against it won't it? I hope all your womenfolk submit.

Shame your NFL players weren't encouraged to be free to kneel, eh?

They were 100% free to kneel, none of them faced any government sanctions, unlike the hilarious guy whose joke you didn't appreciate.

And by the ultimate twitter-idiot of them all who happily blabs away free and easy on just about anything half the time on his favourite medium of choice of late. But then your country elected him (well, that's the official version of how he got into power for now).

Yeah, how terrible, letting people speak freely means anyone can be elected president and does not have to fear being sanctioned for speech that those in power disagree with.

Maybe there's hypocrisy on both sides of the pond, then, eh?

Nope, nothing happened to the NFL players from the government, Trump having free speech is good. Everyone having free speech is good, free speech is good, not having it is bad.

It's just I find yours harder to swallow when the most morally & ethically bankrupt person I can think of dictates the way he thinks others should behave so vociferously. Excuse the pun. And all his fans continue to excuse his every indiscretion. So it appears.

He does not dictate anything, unlike whoever declared that hilarious little pug dog to be a hate speech criminal who dictated what is funny and what is not, trump makes twitter comments like everyone else.
I hope you never find yourself opposed to those in office and wanting to say anything about it, you might get locked up.

This is part of an exchange I have been having with a fellow who thinks we need to amend the constitution and confiscate everyone's guns so we can be safe.

After you click the resteem and vote buttons and make a comment check out the other parts:

Would we be safer without guns?

Would we be safer without guns? Part II

Don't forget to vote and resteem, I need a new boat!

Sort:

The problem is... they aren't wrong. Everyone could be nicer, and get along better.

However, where they are wrong is at the core of their being.
They feel that if they can stop other people from "hate" speaking, then the world would be a perfect place.
They believe that they can control people, so that the world would be perfect.

Of course, this can never happen. Because the only person you have control over is yourself. And as soon as you try to control someone else, you are on the path of becoming the next Hitler.

Further, making fun of something is the surest way of making sure it never happens again.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant, we know that letting people spew whatever hateful shit does nothing but expose it for the stupid crap it is, instead of martyring speech criminals and driving haters underground where they can fester and multiply. If he made that video in America probably no one would have seen it, surly far fewer people than have seen it now. Of course that video was not remotely hateful, it was quite funny.

What you need to do, @funobby51. Is go to Times Square, New York City. Midday. The day after the next school shooting.

Spend an HOUR shouting the following two sentences and the following two sentences alone:

  1. "I'm just exercising free speech as I'm constitutionally allowed to."

  2. "I'm making a video. I need to borrow a dog to teach the expression, 'SHOOT ALL KIDS' to".

If you don't get murdered in that hour / phone the police and beg for police protection....

I'll buy you the fucking boat.

Just post a video showing you doing this please. One more thing, you're to be dressed in street clothing. Ie. No stab vests. No bullet-proof jackets.

What a dickhead you are, @funbobby51! :D

Interesting read but I do disagree with a lot of what you said. And I've no intention to debate this with everyone so I'll just stick to discussing it with the first guy. If that's ok. Thanks for the link all the same.

Not sure what you disagree with exactly, do you just not like guns for some reason, were you traumatized in some way due to a gun?

It is a proven fact guns in the USA are used 70 to 80x more for defense(legally)than for murder/homicides. Bill Clinton Administration's study on it found it to be about 47x at the specific time frame they used, so even a leftist administration had to admit millions of times per year guns are used for good compared to about 20,000 murders(not gang related) and removing suicides to specifically just look at murders.

Overall though, it is proven beyond any reasonable doubt that guns do more good than harm, and isn't that what we are all about? Doing the best we can with the least amount of harm no? Preventing women from being raped or sexually attacked in the USA 200,000 times per year a gun saves a woman from that. No gun = more criminals being successful at them trying to rape or sexually attack women.

It is the feminist position to take against "toxic male masculinity" to use a leftist phraseology.

One wonders why these guys don't want their wives or other women to be armed.

Nobody believes me? PMSL. Looks like no-one's that bothered about 'fighting your battles' for you, either, eh? Because that's what this post is about, isn't it? To get you some much-needed help.

Fucking land of the brave gun owner! ;) ;) ;)

Nope, when I get some long winded rant like yours that takes a while to go point by point on then I post them as a post so I can get paid on them, otherwise it's just throwing pearls before swine. I like that the only motivation you could imagine was that it was to get help. That makes a lot of sense given that you think that what is needed is more police.

You get paid on them? How's that working out? You can buy a boat for less than ten dollars these days?

I think you'll need a bigger boat. To actually get into. With all your hippy-bullshit friends.

Meanwhile, on planet earth I'm saving up to buy myself a Trump-proof bunker to ride out the storm in. You might benefit from a tinfoil hat should you not appreciate the man your nation elected to wreck the world. Your kind of person tends to think they work well enough.

We call your affliction Trump Derangement Syndrome. It's even funnier when foreigners have it.

There is no such thing in natural law as "hate speech" there is only hateful action, and whether or not the actions were instigated by "hate" or by greed, or jealousy, or anger, or revenge, etc., etc....by rights, the punishments should always match the crime, and only the crime. THE SECOND we allow governments the right to make judgments regarding motivations is the moment we become slaves and no longer citizens.

sticks and stones may break our bones but words will never hurt us. I guess they never learned that.

They DON'T learn. They merely parrot.

Odd how non americans are so concerned about the US system of government but get so upset when we say something about theirs?

And he won't seem to say what his plan is when they go ahead and try to implement sharia law over there, anyone who says different will be offensive to Muslims and arrested hate speech criminals.

I love it, I thought you said you were going to click the mute button.

I assumed you'd be editing your comments. To make it look like you did well in the dialogue. So, I thought what the hell! :D

No, it's a pathological thing, you couldn't mute me if you wanted to. You will reply as many times as I do.

It's not a pathological thing at all. Check your dictionary?

It's just I'm enjoying WINNING too much. :D

And I have more than enough stamina to continue making you look like the gun-nut full of bad arguments you so obviously are.

I like that you think that is what is happening here.
