The Left Reaches a New Low

Asher Cafe & Lounge came under attack in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights recently. The anger toward Salom Asher, an award winning Los Angeles businessman who owns several businesses in the LA area, stems from his statement that he supports Trump's emigration policies.

A crowd wearing masks and hurling feces at the Kosher cafe resulted in no arrests. While some claim that the Defend Boyle heights group that organized all of 30 people to protest Salom Asher's statement used no violence, reports that feces were hurled at the building are verified by the owner.

Salom Asher, an emigrant from Israel, came to this country and legally became a citizen. He later released this statement.

“I immigrated to this country 30 years ago and I am blessed and grateful to have been a part of the Boyle Heights and Downtown LA community ever since. Boyle Heights is my second home and it’s where I’ve started two businesses, including Asher Caffè & Lounge. Through my businesses, we have proudly created hundreds of jobs for the community. My staff and team members come from diverse backgrounds, and some of them are immigrants themselves. I consider many of them great friends and family, and I am humbled to work alongside my talented and diverse staff. I am proud to be an immigrant and wholeheartedly support hiring fellow immigrants.

I believe that all people should be treated with humanity, dignity and respect - there is no hate tolerated at Asher Caffè & Lounge. It has always been my vision to create a communal space for Boyle Heights where family, friends and colleagues can come together over good food and to celebrate what makes our community so great.

As a deeply involved member of the Boyle Heights community, Downtown LA and the surrounding areas, I support the Hollenbeck Community Police Station and the LAFD in any way I can. Asher Caffè & Lounge has always been proud to extend a 40% off discount to our hardworking law enforcement, fire departments, CHP and armed forces (army, navy, air force, marines, coast guard). I humbly support and donate to various organizations within Boyle Heights, such as local churches and schools.

While Defend Boyle Heights claims to be an anti-gentrification group, their banners and actions seem more like they are using racism to support a kind of anti-capitalism movement.

The act of throwing fecal matter specifically at a Kosher establishment is either massively racist or was a massive miscalculation by the Defend Boyle Heights organizers. If you know anything about Kosher, its the world's foundation of sanitary food preparation. So throwing crap at people and places is bad enough for anyone. But to commit that act against a Kosher establishment screams of premeditated bigotry.

This sign clearly indicates the racist slant of the group. By "No Gentrifiers", they mean they do not want white people to open businesses in their communities. How and when did the Left adopt the same Nazi tactics they supposedly oppose?

The Asher Cafe & Lounge incident is only the latest in a series of protests by a rather small group.

So far the group has made protests against several local businesses including breweries, art galleries, and coffee shops. Gentrification is a process of renovation of deteriorated urban neighborhoods by means of the influx of more affluent residents. And by protesting against people trying to make a neighborhood better, in essence Defend Boyle Heights is telling the world they prefer the odd comfort they find in a depressed neighborhood. As always, "follow the money", will uncover the real motivation here. But, on the surface, it seems that a communist rejection of capitalism is what is happening here.
