Assad and Putin, Who Saved Who?

Many bigots won't like this, bigots from all sides, but just think about the following points and come up to your own conclusion.

A member on Quora's Q & A asked this question: Would President Assad of Syria, have been overthrown, had it not been for Vladimir Putin?

This is something people keep repeating and want to over-give credit to Russia for 'saving Syria', in my opinion, Russia was waiting at first to see whether Syria would fall, then tried to get rid of its own filths dumping it into Syria, then to save its own butts, and later took advantage of the lifetime opportunity to reserve a place in the global stage as a growing superpower.

My answer to that question on Quora added some points for discussion, mind you, one of my first posts criticizing Putin and the Iranian allies back in 2013 got me a storm of haters from those who overreact, and from those who took advantage and thought of causing a crack between Russia and Syria through Syrian activists. My opinion, as I've stated enough many times, is that yes we do appreciate Russia's shy military support, but the political games by the Russian leadership have cost us very very dearly, in losses of lives, infrastructure, and suffering.

Here's my answer on Quora:

One needs to look at the events and its chronology to understand the answer to this question or at least to put it in perspective of what was going on.

Putin intervened in Syria in late September 2015, from March 2011 until that time the Syrian armed forces were alone on more than 40 fronts all over the country on daily bases, Putin’s direct intervention was because of many factors none of them, as he personally stated several times, was to save Assad. In the matter of fact, Putin doesn’t like Assad but admires him and once he told his aides if he had half of Assad in Ukraine he wouldn’t have lost it.

Putin intervened in the Syrian crisis by aerial support for once because of his refusal to deliver the 4 decades old S300 air defense system that Syria bought and was supposed to receive in 2010, but Putin didn’t hand it over then to please his buddy, Netanyahu. He did promise Assad that in the event of a foreign invasion of Syria where the S300 would be needed he will directly get involved to cover his mistake.

Second, if Putin let the US and its coalition air forces have free movement in Syria, it’ll very swiftly turn into a regional war, where Russian firms that took over the western ones running Israeli oil and gas business would be destroyed by Syria and its Lebanese Hezbollah ally, over a million Russian speaking Jews would flee back to Russia and its CIS countries, he doesn’t want that, because the US and its coalition were aiding ISIS and Nusra Front in Syria, both branches of Al-Qaeda, if Putin didn’t intervene directly the next stop for these terrorists would be Russia itself. That’s why he let over 14,000 anti-Islamic Wahhabi suicide terrorists cross all borders from Chechnya into Syria at the beginning of the Syrian crisis.

Lastly, if the US and its terrorist groups managed to take Syria, very unlikely, but hypothetically, Russia will lose its only naval base outside its territorial waters.

Very unlikely that the US and its terrorists would take Syria is because Putin himself was pressuring the Syrian leadership not to take strong measures against the terrorist organizations throughout the conflict, otherwise, the Syrian Armed Forces would have finished off the insurrection early on, and were able to do so, and are still able to do so at any time they decide to, but the politicians are playing world-level strategic game that sees the US lose influence worldwide and the rise of Russia and China as opponents is there.

End of my answer there.

Naturally there are many factors to be included, some were planned beforehand and others came up as results of the daily updates, but for me an independent Syrian activist who has been affected very badly, like the vast majority of my people, and very dearly as we lost a number of relatives during this US-led War of Terror against our country, I see things from an angle that might differ from those taking the news from outsiders.
