Seele’s Heterogeneous Forest Network- An Ecosystem for worldwide adoption of blockchain

Introduction

In this article I will be focusing on Seele’s Heterogeneous Forest Network. To better understand this article, I would advise you to read my previous articles on what Seele is, I would particularly urge you to read my last article on how their Neural Consensus algorithm actually works, which can be found here:

To recap Seele is a “up scalable neural consensus protocol for high throughput concurrency among large scale heterogeneous nodes with the ability to create a unique heterogeneous forest multi-chain ecosystem” (Seele, 2018). Now in my previous article you will see how this consensus works, this can be considered a continuation from that article.

Seele’s Ecosystem

If you have followed my work to date you will see that I have discussed numerous times about how other blockchain networks, like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other blockchain 3.0 projects typically use single chain structures, now there is nothing wrong with this as they do the job they were designed for, but scalability is yet a hurdle they can’t seem to overcome.

On a single chain structure transactions take place on this one chain. It is well documented that Bitcoin (Blockchain 1.0) can only achieve 7 transactions per second (TPS) and Ethereum (Blockchain 2.0) can only manage around 15 TPS. Now I personally am not one to jump on the bandwagon and throw these 2 projects under the bus, they did after all provide us with the distributed transaction ledger and ability to write smart contracts. I personally just see that for mainstream adoption to take over in the space more capability is required.

We have many blockchain 3.0 projects such as EOS, NEO etc… which give better performance and are utilising more efficient consensus methods (Please read my last article for more on this), these 3.0 projects have even experimented with cross chain capabilities to try improve scalability. Some of these claim 100k plus tps, but this remains to be proved by many. Seele position themselves as blockchain 4.0, essentially leap frogging over many of these other blockchains. If you have read my previous articles and know how amazing their new “Neural Consensus Algorithm” is then you would agree this was justified.

Heterogeneous Forest Network (HFN)

Source: Seele, (2018)

According to Seele, (2018), Seele’s approach is to implement a multi chain like structure, as can be seen by the image above. Their meta-chain (main chain) will comprise of several sub-chains that will service different functions within the “forest” network. Seele’s Vision has lead them to develop a network which will appeal to multi-industry and cross domain business. This is all being driven by a new era of “internet of value”. This offering is called “heterogeneous Forest Network (HFN), essentially a blockchain of subnets which can provide cross chain capability across all business types. In this perfect solution each chain houses only, a small amount of service essential for that particular business type and cohesive services runs in separate chains, this ensure security and resource optimisation across the network, this is also where value transmission between chains (cross chain) comes from.

This network comprises of multiple parallel main and side chains which resembles a hierarchical tree with the top of this “tree” being the global service “meta chain”. Many people suggest this can provide the global configuration a network like this needs to drive global adoption; I would be one such advocate of this view. All sub chains can serve other processes by sharing the same libraries and base code (essentially working in different protocols but interacting with one another). As can be seen by the image above the use cases are unlimited.

It is widely considered amongst the blockchain community that this approach should tailor better to the needs of businesses; a business can use this network in whichever way it wants. Seele will allow each layer to set its own governance mechanism (access rights, flow control & security). I believe that, by this very principal, unlimited chains could be forged from the Seele meta chain.

This heterogeneous forest network essentially bridges the gap between the real world and the digital world and will provide an avenue for the transformation of “assets of traditional business” via value internet services.

Source: Seele, (2018)

The potential of this network is endless, many organisations may wish to run parts of their business on different chains, this would be the case for banks and financial institutions wishing to improve on security. This in some way is similar to windows mute-server (Split servers across various domains). Seele will allow organisations to use different secure layers for the hierarchy. This is the reason I love this project.

Value Transport Protocol

According to their whitepaper, Seele will facilitate their cross-chain capability via a value transport protocol (VTP) which is based off of their heterogeneous network. This is essentially a means of information transfer similar to the existing web. Seele wish to turn this norm on its head and create their own.

Furthermore, they claim they will allow users to name their own resources via Uniform Asset Identifiers (UAI). They are creating a Value-HTTP (VHTTP) protocol which is founded on the traditional HTTP protocol. (Seele, 2018). This is their solution to the current problem blockchains face; they can’t communicate with each other and share data.

What I find fascinating is that VHTTP can recognise HTTP and will drive a new era of value internet. This will support naming formats and address services and drive adoption of this amazing blockchain.

Quick Value Internet Connection (QVIC)

Seele, (2018) also proclaim that they will provide a “TCP/UDP based low latency quick value internet connection (QVIC) to further push boundaries and drive this new era of value internet. This is to combat the low latency blockchains experience today by having nodes all over the world running the network.

Source: Seele, (2018)

From their whitepaper I understand that this will allow a client to connect to a server with a non-transparent proxy mode, which is then taken over by QVIC. As can be seen by the image above when one compares this to a typical TCP protocol, the QVIC protocol has a vastly better transmission rate.

According to Seele, (2018) this speedup ratio has reached 500% for 1GB data transmission on a network of 50 machines. This is huge. This in my view means it has un-rivalled security and efficiency in the blockchain space today. For those of you who may be confused by this, it will essentially give companies the chance to store large amounts of data on-chain which is a huge pain point in industry today.

Conclusion

In my opinion the Seele blockchain is far superior to others out there. Their Heterogeneous Forest Network (HFN)is a network which I feel will be adopted worldwide, due to the efficiency and use case it can bring to worldwide industries. By its very nature it is designed to be used how the users imagine it.

From my research I have discovered that Seele will deliver this project by working together with internationally established blockchain institutions and labs, top tier universities, experts of enterprise around the world and top developers. This is truly an open source collaborative effort and I am glad to be part of it.

What I really love about this project is that it can cater for many use cases via its use of subnets, which are governed via cross chain domain protocols. If anybody here has read some of my previous work you will know that this structure makes blockchain substantially more secure and efficient. They will achieve this brilliance via their ingenious neural consensus algorithm (Described in great detail in my previous article) and Heterogeneous Forest (HF) Network structure (Discussed here). This combined with their innovative VHTTP and QVIC approaches renders Seele as Blockchain 4.0, thus crowning it as "Number One" in my mind. I would urge everybody to do some research on this project and see for yourself.
