DIY Ghettoblaster

in #howto10 years ago (edited)

This is my ghettoblaster project from 2010. It's made of plywood covered in glossy acryl. Inspiration for looks came from KITT and all 80s' aesthetics :D I can add sort of parts list later if anyone is interested building their own. Posted earlier on my imgur flickr and allthemods.

Finished ghettoblaster with led scanner running

Glossy acryl

Main technical parts are d-class amp and high efficiency drivers. D-class amps dont generate much heat and electricity is used in good efficiency which is important on battery operated unit. Even more important are high sensitivity speaker drivers which require only couple of watts to be loud. This ghettoblaster has Visaton BG20 drivers which, on paper, produce 92 decibels with 1 watt. Battery is 6s lipo with 5000mAh.

Sketching the size, horn tweeter in the middle. These drivers need ~20liter sealed enclosure

Low tech shaping method :)

*Electronics installed. Note this is a full mono 2-way design. Two 8" bass/middle drivers and horn tweeter in the middle. Upper round holes will be used for battery and fuse.

It is just a fantasy!

Neat built, and high shine finish is beautyful. I also adore class D (class T) amps.
Do you think sure electronics board is better than cheaper Chinese boards from eBay?
