Suddenly a Bit More Off Grid [VIDEO]

in #homesteading7 years ago

We were able to reach our goal somewhat earlier than we expected. Thanks to a little bit of freezing weather, we are now off the grid concerning water (at least temporarily).

Since we started dreaming about homesteading, our goal has been to eventually be off grid. We are hoping to have a passive solar house with wood providing auxiliary heat. And we hope to have a rain catchment system that is able to water the rest of the homestead using the power of gravity.

We know that the electrical grid and everything powered by it is extremely fragile. And so many other "code-approved" systems are just as lacking in robustness. Today, well yesterday actually, we came face-to-face with this. Through poor design, our water system is severely vulnerable to cold weather. Something happened to it (probably some frozen water somewhere in the system) that has rendered it useless.

So, we are now considering our options. And maybe a manual water pump so that this doesn't happen again. But for today, it is to the laundromat to wash diapers.

Useful video dear thanks waiting for more keep going

Yikes! That's not good...

How much more work is necessary to finish your project? Have you considered hydroponics?

Hope you get the problem diagnosed easily and back up & running soon.

I'm sure you'll get it figured out but at the same time it is nice to have "modern" conveniences still available!
