Allotment24 Update - The Long Slog May Soon Be Over [PHOTOS]

in #homesteading6 years ago (edited)

My dear friend has been helping me lots recently on the allotment and has made some real progress.

I got a bit overwhelmed with it when nothing seemed to be getting done. So weeks past as the sun beamed down, to tired to dig. But we have had a lot cooler weather recently which has really helped.

We have cleared nearly the whole plot from couch grass and dandelions. Some have grown back, but after 5 years of growth it is understandable. A local carpet fitter has donated us some old carpets too which has helped kill of the 3 inch thick layer of thick grass roots.

We must have moved hundreads of barrows full of the stuff. So much so we used up all of our back wall space so we had to do some rejigging around. We moved two sides into one, sifting the soil as we went.

The slabs we got for free have made a very useful ramp whilst moving it all.

The huge hops plant which devoured the shed has been taken town, as well as the fruit bushes such as raspberry and gooseberry.

The giant rhubarb has been removed too.
