THE TEMPORARY PEN WORKS AWESOME

in #homesteading6 years ago

Some things are always a risk.

I figured that they goats would eat all of the weeds that they could, but whether or not the pen would actually hold them was to be determined. Thankfully, everything is working well. Here is an update vlog I just made.

THE TEMPORARY PEN WORKS - VIDEO

CHECK IT OUT!

When we first put the goats in the pen, it looked something like this. Basically, it was four kennel panels clipped together, with the middle being full of lush plants and weeds. Because we wanted to remove these weeds, we figured it would save us some effort and put the weeds to good use by having the goats do the job for us. Sure enough, it worked.

After just two days, the 12' X 12' section was basically mowed down to the earth. Now it'll be much easier to turn this portion of our land into garden, plus, our little goats got a great meal in the process.

It is such a blessing for us to have these animals for so many reasons. Besides being a potential source of income, food and milk, they also are able to do many jobs for us and also help teach us about proper stewardship and animal husbandry. Sure it's great for the @little-peppers, but it's also great for us!

In case you missed the video where we "built" this pen, here it is. It was just based on something we saw on another homestead, so we wanted to test it out. At this point, I'm sure glad that we did!

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Those moveable wire pens work great for clearing via critters. The one thing to watch for is bobcats. I had one go over a 5 foot pen before. Started wiring the top closed, and added a small piece of tin for shade.

Having animals is indeed a blessing and the way God intended it to be. More in tune with nature and Him. On a lighter note you penned about the pen. LOL Thanks @papa-pepper

Awesome weed eradicators! Looks like they really enjoy their work too.
Also, I sent you a message in chat.

Everybody wins with this plan. Great when things workout.

What a creative idea! We have been utilizing some of your ideas in our small garden and they have been working! The plastic forks kept the rabbits away. We normally keep them on the porch, but I talked my stepfather into trying your recommendation and it worked! Thanks for these creative videos! Happy Father's Day!

Hey, PP. You guys have any laying hens? We're thinking about it, but it's like coyote central around here. I'm not as handy as you, and am looking at one of those prebuilt wire-cage hen houses with their coop all prebuilt inside it, etc. It's like $900. but does look rugged enough to keep coyotes out. It's covered too, so chicken hawks would also be no problem.

As a thought, next time you have a problem, post the problem and see how many different ideas, results, fixes you get.
Remember, you are allowed to learn from others errors, you don't have time to make all the errors yourself, get ideas from others, it will make your life easier.

Great idea! I was just thinking about that, since I'm having a problem with my footwear at the moment...

stick up your problem, what products you have to fix it with, and wait for all the answers, then pick a couple to try.

footwear, easy fix = Bare Feet, the soles of your feet will harden like leather, may not be snake bite proof, the answer to that one is, Stay away.
mine were Californian Thistle proof as a kid,
