"Always winter and never Christmas"

Over the last few weeks, I keep thinking of that line in Narnia, "always winter and never Christmas." That is sort of how it has felt around here this winter.

Last year, our winter was mild and short. This year has proved to be quiet the opposite. Granted, we live in Minnesota, what else should we expect? But, looking back on my history here, I cannot recall looking out the window in early April and ever seeing this much snow! Sure, getting snow this time of year is not uncommon, but, still having a full base of snow this time of year for us is.

Shelly and I did farm chores this last Sunday with 10 fresh inches of snow on the ground (on top of an already solid base) and a temperature at a solid 0 deg F (-10 if you factor in the windchill). Now, I'm not complaining, I have actually almost been enjoying this winter weather. Maybe it is easy to enjoy it this time of the year, knowing that it won't be long before the peaceful sound of snowflakes hitting my hat will be replaced with buzzing kamikaze female mosquitoes that will attempt to suck me dry.

Considering the weather, almost needless to say, nothing much has changed outside the house. However, inside the house, we are slowly and constantly progressing.

After two years of not being able to paint out unfinished dining and living room walls, well, we finally got the walls taped, sanded, and painted!!!

Walls are also progressing in the basement and attic, although never as fast as we would like.

Rather than just framing up the exterior basement walls, which are really quite awkward due to some unusual designs implemented before our time here, we are attempting to utilize as much of this space as possible for storage of our seasonal farm related equipment (things like our incubator, spare water heaters, and meat grinder).

A belated Happy Easter to you!? Oh winter, did you not get the memo, Spring started a couple of weeks ago?

Ah, did I mention, we found ourselves some grain bins (a bit south of here as you can tell by the lack of snow in the photo)? And no, their use will have nothing to do with grain :D If you're bored and up for some adventure, we'll be dismantling them and hauling them to our farm later this month. I wouldn't turn down another set of hands!

Tell me about it! Although we haven't had the amount of you have it had been extremely cold here. 15-20 degrees Celsius below the norm. Almost every night in outlying areas it is still getting down -20 Celsius. What is this 3rd or 4th winter?

It has been down right blustery. Sorry, but glad to here we are not the only ones stuck in this long winter. Lows this weekend here are forecast to hit 0 F / ~ -18C, again...
