Fundraising for the 'Literacy Backpack Philippines' project

I'm right behind this project. It's a little winner that the wife and her sister got started. The Literacy Backpack Philippines (LBP) project was founded early this year and the project is situated in Benolho a small town of Albuera, Leyte in the Visayan region of the Philippines. The project is privately funded by two people in the hope of supporting and assisting school-age children and their family who are vulnerable, especially those that still recovering from the Haiyan Typhoon.

We've decided to extend our fund raising efforts to Steemit in the hope of tapping into the strong vein of generosity that is an integral part of this community.

The goal of ‘Literacy Backpack Philippines (LBP) ‘ is to ensure that children who are marginalized in the village will have the opportunity to receive the ‘Literacy Backpack’, to assist and give them a good start to their learning journey.

This year, we were able to save some money and implemented the first stage of our project and celebrated Valentine’s Day with the children and their family.

We can not afford the backpack yet so we just put our small school gift materials in a paper bag. The paper bag contains the following:

Vitamins for the kids, notebook, pencil pack, biscuit, money box (which is to encourage children to save money until December 2018, when the children will open their money boxes and we will match the amount that they save).

In addition to the small school gift pack, we have provided a free lunch for the children and their family, initially we were only aiming for 50 people but the news got around and we ended up providing support and free meals to more than 150.

Mealtime (we’ve provided nutritious food of rice soup and boiled egg in a cup).

For the second stage of the ‘Literacy Backpack Philippines (LBP) ‘ project, we want your help.

We want to extend our project by providing support to school-age children in primary and high school. We want to raise $16,750.00, for our ‘Literacy Backpack Philippines (LBP) ‘ project.

Our fundraising goal is made up of:

Literacy Backpack Philippines (LBP)

1.) 150 primary students x $40 each (roughly 1520 pesos per child) = $6000.00

2.) 150 high school students x $45 each (roughly 1710 per child)= $6750.00

3.) Health check-up and vitamins for kids and their family (family of 7 per household), we hope to support the most vulnerable and marginalized families in my home town) = $4000.00
Total: $16,750.00

Fees

GoFundMe Fees 5% = $837.50
Card Processing Fees 2.9% = $461.46
International transfer fees 1.9% = $293.57

Net TOTAL towards the project = $15,157.47
