Jacob Goes Off Grid Day 37 Part 1

This is a video from Day 37 of going off-grid. I went 'off grid' five hundred and eighty-one days ago and it has been quite the journey since I got dropped off at this old fallow farm and built (continue to build) all my own infrastructure. I have been video documenting the entire process and have just recently begun publicly sharing some of the videos. I have been sharing the videos privately since I started the entire process which I call Jacob Goes Off Grid In The Woods. 'Day 1' is the morning after I arrived at this little place in the mountains in the 'dead of winter' on January thirteenth of two thousand and seventeen with my dogs, my wits, minimal gear and very little hard currency to work with. Slowly I have done my best to breathe life into a very old farm and give it all my best, 'learning as I go', and documenting the process as best I can. This is another fireside video. I talk a lot in this video about how much better I am feeling now that my bad tooth has been extracted. I talk about trying to 'play catch up' with the work I am trying to get done before the arrival of Spring.

I talk about meeting some pleasant neighbors and how they donated some roofing metal to me.

I get off on a tangent about how folks often judge other people's intelligence by their own intelligence and that leads me into talking about myself some and how deceptive appearances can be. I get into an explanation about how what I am doing is not just 'living somewhere for free' and explain a good bit about my self-defined role at a property as a caretaker. I actually give a pretty good explanation of my 'job'. I also talk some about how the questions folks ask me often rub me the wrong way.

I explain some about how I did the math for the size of my mini-shelter and how I figured out that the body heat from me and the dogs would be enough to keep it warm inside.

As always this is just a summary of the video's content and not meant to explain everything that I cover in the video.
