UP DATE ON SOME OF THE SEEDS WE'VE PLANTED & SWEET POTATO SLIPS

in #homesteading6 years ago (edited)

Cool Weather Crops

These beds were planted with cool weather crops like kale, lettuce and spinach. I have been covering theses garden beds at night with clear plastic to keep them warm over night and they have started to sprout.

The beginnings of new live. All the green little dots are Butter Crunch Lettuce seeds sprouting!!

Some Kale Coming out to say hello. Can't wait to harvest some of this next month. Planted three different types of kale in theses garden beds.

Beet & Radishes

I was just about to plant more Beets and Radishes because it had been 19 days since the seeds were planted and they hadn't sprouted. Then on day 20 there was a few sprouts and on day 21 there were a few more. Tomorrow will be day 22. We'll see how many more have popped up and if I'll need to plant some more seed.

Broccoli & Cabbage

Had to restart the broccoli and Cabbage seeds in the TP rolls. I made a mistake and pulled them out of the basement to early and a frost came through and got them. Hopefully this go round will go better!!

Sweet Potatoes

The sweet potatoes in the soil aren't doing as well as hoped. I think they may need to be put in a warmer spot for them to start sprouting.

The sweet potatoes in the jars of water are going GREAT!! There is tones of root and and the slips are starting to take off!!

Before we know it the jar will be packed full of roots and we wont be able to see through it! All we do to these is add water when needed. The one on the right needs a little.

When the sweet potato slips get about 4-6 inches long they will be popped off and rooted. I will be explaining and showing you how to do that in phase 2 of planting sweet potatoes.

THANK YOU FOR POPPING BY!!

Everything's lookin' so good! I started my cool weather stuff in seed pots. I'm too cowardly to put them out yet! We've still got a couple freezes in each weeks forecast. ❄😕

Thank you!! I left the low tunnel open one night and the frost got to them.

You didn’t lose them all did you?

Blast! Well, we got a whole lotta garden season ahead of us!

Awesome post! You have gained a follower! Sorry to hear about your broccoli and cabbage! Good idea with your TP rolls, I may borrow that idea if you don't mind! :)

Thank you @iexplore!! The TP rolls work great untill i let them freeze.😣

The cycle of nature is so wonderful....how do huge veg grow from tiny seeds. I have some giant onion seedlings growing on my windowsill.....hopefully I will enter them in the local horticultural show in September.

Nature cycle is definitely wonderful! I love to see the size of your onions when they're ready!
