Homesteaders - Living Naturally, Newsletter. 24th July 2019

in #homesteading5 years ago (edited)

Welcome back to another week and another newsletter. It feels like it's been a quiet week on the homesteading and gardening front and it doesn't look like we've had any new arrivals on the homesteading and natural living side of things. However, not to worry, if you've been busy then our communities should be able to offer you a good excuse to take a few moments out to post and contribute.

Things happening in the community.

The new @ecotrain Question of the Week is out! This one is getting us thinking whether more choice or less choice is the best way to go.

The @naturalmedicine Let Food be Thy Medicine challenge runs until 27th July. There is a good prize pool and an interested following, so if this interests you, then it's certainly worthwhile getting your entries in.

This month's Garden Journal Challenge has come around and @simplymike invites you to tell everyone how your garden has been doing in the month of July.

Introducing Newcomers

@taintedblood is not exactly a newcomer, but has taken a long break between his first attempts at posting here and his recent return. This time he tells us a bit about what he wants to do moving forward on the farm he lives on and I hope we'll see more as these plans come into fruition.

Some highlights of the week

When you've grown up in towns and cities, with everything you need just a quick shop away, then homesteading is likely to change the way you view things. In this video, @freedompoint shares with us 5 ways homesteading changed his mind.

We've gotten into habits where we don't always see the full potential of our food plants, because we're so used to only eating one part of them. However, @smallblockfuelie wants to try and open our eyes to using secondary edibles from the plants we don't fully utilise. This is a great approach to make the most of produce if you are practising urban permaculture or growing in a small area.

I always love an up-cycle project and these damaged adult pants remade to fit @akipponn's daughter certainly fit the bill. Reduce, reuse and recycle all in one here! ;D
