Cleaning with toxic chemicals why not? Why is it normal?

Everyone loves a nice clean house. But most of us buy toxic cleaning chemicals. Basically we replace dirt with chemicals. The cleaning agents are not only a danger for little kids and animals also for yourself! We breath it in, it gets on your hands and some of it gets in to your body. There were 7000 cases of poisoning with kids under 5 years old halve the time cleaning agents were the reason...
The second danger is hard to measure. The toxic build up in your body can result in various mild or severe diseases. The list of diseases is to long to name but some examples are allergies, headaches, rashes, migraines and cancer. So let's go for natural cleaning agents often even cheaper!
For every cleaning chore there is a different type of cleaning agent. Toilet cleaner, air refreshers, chloride, descaler etc. Is it really necessary for a clean house?
Most people were never interested in chemicals so there knowledge about it is limited. What are the health hazards and environmental hazards? Companies benefit from our ignorance. If we don't demand healthier cleaning agents than they won't produce them. Cleaning agents is big business. It's why many of the commercials you see on tv are about toothpaste, toilet cleaners and shampoo. You are paying for those commercials by buying their products.

Healthy alternatives

Most cleaning agents are based on baking soda, soap or a natural acid. Those three product won't hurt your health. You can even make soap yourself but it's allot of work and natural soap is cheap...
I will show you later in an article how to make soap. But let's go on.

Laundry detergant

Ingredients for one litre white laundry detergent;

• 16 gram rasped natural soap
• 16 gram soda
• 1 litre water
• soap berries or soap nuts.
• 10 drops peppermint oil

Boil one litre of water and add the soap and soda till it's dissolved. When it's cooled down you add the peppermint oil. It should end up as a thick mass. Stir it up and store it in an old detergent bottle. Only use this if your washing drum is made of stainless steel and only use it for white laundry. Add the soap nuts to the laundry when you wash it. Just throw them between the clothes.

coloured laundry detergent;

• 16 gram rasped natural soap
• 1 litre water
• 10 drops peppermint oil
• soap berries or soap nuts

Just follow the same steps as for white laundry detergent.

Fabric softener

Softeners are often toxic with chemically made parfums. A simple solution that is much better for your washing machine and clothes is vinegar with essential oils. I know you think vinegar will make it stink but that's only temporarily. When the laundry is dry the smell is gone. Vinegar removes the soap and calcium in the laundry and in the washing machine. Your washing machine will thank you for that.

All-purpose cleaner

It's very simple to make. Admitting that most all purpose cleaners aren't very toxic it's still a good money saver to make it yourself.
The ingredients are:

• 1 liter warm water
• 1 full spoon of baking soda
• 1 full spoon of rasped green soap/Marseilles soap.
• Quarter cup of lemon juice.

Shake it till it's dissolved. Very suitable for fat & dirt.

Shampoo

Shampoo is a little bit more tricky. Everyone has different hair and pollution can really make your hair dirty. There is a method called ''No Poo'' it really works. I'm a man and have very short hair so no shampoo is required.

Tandpasta

Toothpaste is full of fluoride. There are many good natural alternatives available. Don't go cheap on your teeth. I personally have no good experiences with homemade toothpaste.

Bodylotion

Just don't use it your skin will thank you. If you temporarily have a very dry skin because of sunburn/winter than use Argan oil. Most bodylotions are full of nasty stuff.

Lip balm

Use coconut oil or olive oil. Both protect without making the lips addicted. Commercials products work but if you quite your lips completely break. That's very profitable for them but not for us.
