There are some good tips here - https://wtop.com/garden-plot/2015/07/garden-plot-best-way-get-rid-yellow-jackets/
The one I liked best is the glass bowl idea, no pesticides involved at all. Also the bug zapper idea.

My grandparents had an infestation of what they called "ground bees" - not one hole but dozens in one area. Every year my grandfather put out elaborate traps he made with bug-killing goo inside. But it obviously didn't kill them all because they came back every year.

Turned out they weren't exactly bees - they were bald-faced hornets! Mean little things.

thanks :) we got a ground nest spray and it seems to work. will post a new blog soon as we got them all. glass bowl sounds interesting. maybe causes greenhouse effect on nest to kill them off...

Good to hear!
The article says the bowl works because the queen wasp digs the hole from the surface but the wasps can't dig out from inside. I think the glass part is so you can see what's going on in there!

:)

Well dang it. You cannot allow this scourge of hornets to go on!

sorry will post update this evening. been busy with doctors appointments and haven't had time to upload results.

I didn't comment about chemicals earlier but in the 90s the EPA neutered all the otc available poisons so much that they are worthless to purchase or use anymore. They neutered automotive carb cleaner too so that it didn't work anymore either. Pay the money for very poor results. People are safer with ineffective products that do NOT work. Wow, thanks epa.

technically this spray was designed for above ground nests and i used it for under ground nest.

Boiling water....at dawn...

I would also add Dawn dish soap which dissolves their body coating and would help the kill.

we got the correct spray this time for under ground nests so hopefully it works. if not then boiling water is next :)
