EASY BEE FEEDER - How to make with Recycled Jars
Sometimes the bees need a little supplement food. Of course you can buy a feeder and liquid feed, but why not make your own? It's so easy!
The Bee Feeder
This can be as simple as a recycled jar with some holes in the lid and turned upside down. Just give the bees space to get under there to get the liquid sugar feed. See the demonstration of this in the video.
The Liquid Sugar Bee Food
The simple sugar solution that I use for my bees is made by combining 1 part water with 1 part plain white sugar. The water is warmed up on the stove top so the sugar melts in easily. I've heard that there is some debate about whether to use the sugar and water by weight or volume. Well, in my tests there isn't a huge difference in those amounts so I just go by volume. For example: 1 quart of water mixed in with 1 quart of sugar. This gives a very nice rich syrup that the bees love.

@daddyki8rbs, so sorry you lost the hive. Hopefully the others will do well this winter.
Any test on weather bees like beet sugar vs regular sugar?
I read somewhere here on the interwebz that once the beet sugar and cane sugar are refined they are almost identical... Pure Sucrose.
Which is why I wonder if it would be a good substitute. Beets are easier to grow than cane sugar.
Might have to do with GMO in the beets.
Plenty of beet options

That is an awesome hack for others!
Seems like with the holes the liquid would just continue to drip out. Does it depend on the size of the holes? I'm guessing that if they are too big the water tension would not be able to hold it.
correct, if the holes are too big they will leak out. The small nail holes are usually ok with the thick liquid.
nice post...upvte me
