Gonorrhea Awareness
My warm greetings to you all in this educative community of Healthy Steem. I would like to welcome you all to a new week and my blog. I'm here for this educative contest bout Gonorrhoea awareness brought to us by @afzalqamar.
What do you know about gonorrhoea?
When I first heard someone had gonorrhea was when I visited a family friend at the hospital and I quickly remembered I was taught in school that it also called the clap or drip and it can be transferred from person to person because it is a sexually transmitted infection (STI). But based on a woman's reproductive part, this gonorrhea does not cause symptoms and it comes from a certain bacteria that is known as Neisseria Gonorrhoeae.
People that are sexually active can pass on this infection and it can also be passed to a child during childbirth. During sex, this infection spread through vaginal fluid and semen. Different types of intercourse like anal sex, oral sex or even sharing of sex toys with an infected person can spread gonorrhea. The second most common STI caused by bacteria is Gonorrhea.
What are the causes, symptoms, and effects of gonorrhea?
Most times, this infection shows no symptoms for female. But if you experience symptoms it can vary due to your reproductive type and this symptoms can be;
Unusual vaginal discharge(it can be white or yellow).
Pain during sexual intercourse.
Bleeding between periods.
Pain or burning during urination.
Lower abdomens or pelvis (belly) pain.
There can be issues in the throat like soreness, itchy feelings, scratchiness, and trouble swallowing.
Men are very likely to experience symptoms of gonorrhea, but these symptoms are noticed after weeks of exposure and it can be;
Penis discharge like white green or yellow.
Swollen testicles and testicular pain.
During urination there is pain or burning.
Itching in the anus, anus discharge and pain when defecating.
The main cause of gonorrhea is when N. Gonorrhoeae enters the body through sexual fluids through unprotected sex. The cervix in women is the infection site while the mens own starts from the urethra which is the tube that carries urine out of the body.
The effects of gonorrhea is serious complications like;
Painful joints.
Inflammation of liver
Heart valve
Brain damage
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease(PID)
Infertility
Ectopic pregnancy
Pain in prostrate
How can we prevent and treat gonorrhea?
The only possible means of preventing this infection is to stay away from sex. But for sexually active people, they have to;
Make use of condoms or dental dams.
Avoid sex with any active infected persons.
Stay away from someone who has the infection symptoms.
Limit your sexual partners.
Always get tested with the apartment.
For the treatment of gonorrhea, one needs antibiotics with their sexually active partners too. But it's medically adviced to speak to your healthcare provider first.
Why is it important to spread awareness about STIs?
For public health most importantly, they awareness of sexually transmitted infections STI is crucial because;
The knowledge of STI can help one take preventive measures.
They can be early detections and treatment of STI.
Awareness can reduce the stigma about STI and the discrimination about it too.
There will be improved reproductive health due to access to treatment when there's awareness.
It will reduce the risk of transmission of HIV also.
It will help protect the future generations.
I would like to invite @josepha, @zory23 and @pandora2010 to join this contest.
