New school versus old school parenting

Parenting encompasses a lot of responsibilities ranging from raising and nurturing a child, providing for their needs, taking care of their physical, social, spiritual and emotional wellbeing.

There's this saying that goes like this "Spare the rod and spoil the child". Do you think its still valid in this new school parenting?

"Spare the rod and spoil the child" simply means "allow the child behave whichever way he or she likes and you will see the end result in the future.

I won't say that the old school parenting never spared the rod because they did especially to the last babies of the house. I remembered my little brother was spoilt by my mom but for me and my elder brother, we were given the strict training for life.

My mom would always ask him specially what he wants to eat for breakfast if maybe he didn't like the food prepared. He was never allowed to participate in house chores and other activities and this was the old school parenting.

During that time, parents usually have their special child among their children and this was the problem because some would be spared and spoilt while some would be raised strict.

The new school parenting generally called the Gen Z parenting spare the rod on daily basis. Did you know that in schools, teachers no longer use a cane on children because parents insisted they stop. The parents of these days are so carefree about their children, we have just few who are strict. Spare the rod and spoil the child is not the trending thing now, children of these days parent their parents, more like they say what they want to eat, wear, go etc and the parents give the permission at will.

Do you think Old school parents were too strict compared to new school parenting?

Oh yes, they were. I experienced a lot of that and I began to wonder if my mom was my biological mother. You wouldn't eat each time you disobey any instruction given. And when you fail your exams, you would get the worst punishment that would last you for the next school term.

The new school parenting are soft, tender to the children. They believe that a child is not corrected by being too hard on them, you can actually correct a child with love and tenderness. They believe children should be given opportunities to make choices, decisions, let their voices be heard, strict is not anywhere close the modern parenting.

Which one were you raised ? Do you think you were raised right .

I was raised with the old school parenting and it was right for me. When I look at my younger brother and his kind of living, it doesn't go well for me. I wondered what would have been of me if I was raised that way.

The old school parenting exposed me to many things like taking care of myself at early stage, learning cooking and perfecting in it, and lots more. I hated it but I don't regret it either.

Do you think we should go back to old school parenting or stick to new school parenting.

Going back is a question of choice, no one would force anyone on how to parent their children. You can decide to spare the rod and spoil the child or the other way round.

We are in the modern world where only the trending things are believed more. If you don't know the trending, you look odd and that is flowing with the trend. So about going back, it won't be a general decision but an individual's choice.
