Kokot fell silent. He had never thought about that. With more determined steps, he returned to the village before sunrise. When he crowed, the sound felt different—full of confidence, full of meaning.

Kebo smiled. Cimeng stopped pretending to sleep. The village children woke up cheerfully. Even the morning breeze carried his voice farther than usual.
