Si Belang the cat. His body was striped in black and white and his eyes were a piercing green and his fur was silky and glistened under the sun. He resided in the house of an elderly farmer named Pak Rahmat. Daily Pak Rahmat and Si Belang would go to the rice paddies, perched on the embankment watching little birds flying around.

But there was one bird, among the birds, which was special: a little sparrow that was always flying near Si Belang. His name was Pipit. As a rule of cats In the beginning, Si Belang wanted to catch Pipit, but Pipit is not scared. Instead, he sat by Si Belang’s head and whistled happily as if to greet him.

Step by step, they turned into good friends. Pipit regularly brought Si Belang some rice grains and Si Belang would give him Residual fish from the kitchen of Pak Rahmat. They ran around the yard and played under the mango tree, chased one another in the yard and slept in the afternoon sun. The animals in the village liked to grin at the close proximity of these twomaster and servant creatures that should have been enemies."

One day, a monstrous storm descended upon the village. The wind buffeted, the rain fell in sheets, and lightning zapped. Trees fell, roofs were ripped off and Pipit’s nest was blown away by the wind. Pipit was caught in the rain with his wings drenched, and he could not fly. That's when the spotted dove came running. He covered Pipit with his body, shivering by his side but still managing to keep his tiny companion warm.

The storm abated the next morning. Pipit was safe, if a bit weak. He glanced down at the spotted dove, who was still sleeping out of exhaustion. Lovingly Pipit chirps gently in his ear as if to say thank you. Since then their friendship has only gone from strength to strength.

Spotted dove and pipit was a story of real friendship for the village—that difference is not a reason to shut each other out, but to complement. And in the afternoons, under an orange sky, there they always sat side by side on the bak of the rice paddy, sipping the peace of the world.
