Contest| "Living in the Agricultural World"
🌱 In farming, what is the first step and how do you handle it to generate a good result?
The first element to any new agricultural venture involves planning and choice of site. Analyze whether the type of land, type of soil, suitability of drainage, disposition to sun, presence of water and weather causing conditions like droughts/rains juxtapose with what you intend to plant to come up with and on your farm goals so to plant well defined identifies what to grow or rear and accords it to the potentials of the site. This key first analysis will determine all the future decisions.
Then, the next is soil and resources preparation. So check the nutrients and the pH acidity which is in the soil and add some organic material as well or lime if required. till the ground or clear the ground and plant. Because it is important to understand which type of the soil it is so as to make it ready. And such preparing amplifies development of roots, water resourcing, fertility and overall farm viability. It all begins from healthy soil to produce good yields and long life in productivity.
🌱 When clearing a land for use, what are the required items/equipments needed. Explain each one.
Various tools and equipment are necessary when clearing land for farming to make working easy and safe. A cutlass or machete is used for cutting the grass, shrubs as well as small trees. Chainsaws aid in fast cutting of larger trees. Axes and hoes help in uplifting tree stumps and roots. Also brush cutters are good tools for thick undergrowth. For larger ranges, trees can be toppled over and debris cleared quickly by bulldozers, while tractors with a plow help to loosen soil once cleared.
Rakes and shovels are used to collect and clear the remainder of the debris. Safety is guaranteed during the process with utilization of protective apparel such as boots, gloves and goggles among others. Finally, fire beaters or water tanks maybe needed in case controlled burning is used. Proper use of equipment to perform land clearing makes it more efficient and prepares the soil well for less subsequent maintenance problems.
Do you believe that farm work is an easy job to indulge in? Highlight your response.
Work on the farm is not a piece of cake to involve oneself in it is not easy by any means; it takes persistence, physical fitness and mental toughness to go through it. The farming takes extended hours in most cases, in very adverse weather conditions and it requires year-long diligence. Physically demanding and time-sensitive are tasks as planting, weeding, harvesting and taking care of animals.
Along with the manual labor, the farmers have to deal with the resource management, preparation of seasons, and uncertainties with the market and environmental conditions. Farming success is related to knowledge, patience, and hands-on experience. Although it can be very gratifying and satisfying, particularly if crops do well, or animals prosper, it is not by any means easy. Farming is a science, hard work, and a strategy in one; it is vital and honorable of course, but not easy.
Does adding fertilizers in crops destroy them or does it help them to stay healthy?
Combining fertilizers with crops is generally beneficial because it dose them up with such essential nutrients as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium with the result of strong growth, high yielding and disease resistance. However, the abuse of fertilizers is destructive to crops. Over-dosing is possible to create imbalance in the nutrient, “burn” the plant roots or poison the soil and sources of the water.
The use of the inappropriate type of fertilizer for a given plant or the application of the fertilizer at the wrong time may also reduce the effectiveness or hurt the plants. So, fertilizers are good if applied in the right way (depending on the soil test, dose, and timing). Crop health would be supported by the organic or chemical fertilizers whether they are used wisely. Proper use maintains crops vibrant, soil is fertile and the environment is conserved for farming in future.
