The journey of a Grounds man to 'Nice Gary': Part 1

in Cric-World 🏏3 years ago (edited)

There are countless stories in cricket about rising from the struggling life and illuminating the cricket field in its own light. But today's story is not about such a struggle. A story from fieldworkers to dyeing the elite white of cricket.

An 'unknown' field worker of cricket one day he discovered himself as a cricketer of one of those baggy green caps wrapped in nobility and dignity. I will go ahead with the reason for saying unknown. The cricket ground, the carpet of twenty-two yards, is the place where the bat-ball storm takes place.

And the one who takes care of the field as like a newly born child with absolute affection prepares the field every day like that mother, the mother who prepares the child with patience every day to go to school. But always remain unnoticed, whose place is always in the back chapter of the story. The word ‘Unsung Hero’ makes it perhaps more understandable.

Nathan Michael Lyon is one of the most sought 'unknown' field workers who wrote his history with his own finger. He was born on November 20, 1986, in Young, New South Wales, Australia. He left Young with his family and came to Canberra to pursue his career. There he played under-17 and under-18 under the Australian Capital Territory.

Lyon made his debut for the ACT Comets in 2008 against South Wales' second-best XI in the Cricket Australia Cup. It was during this time that Lyon found for himself the coach and captain of that team, Mark Higgs. He was the first to teach Lyon about the ins and outs of spin bowling. He taught how to bowl at any line length, and how to arrange fielding with any ball.

Fieldwork and play, both of which have been going on together until then. After four years as a trainee in Manuka Oval Canberra, he began his career as a field worker in Adelaide. Lyon kept in touch with Mark Higgs about bowling at that time.

Wondering, where is the main background of the story? To know that you have to wait for the next part.
