I get the fat and food particles off of everything before I pop it into the dishwasher, so everything gets a scrub under hot water first. I use one of those natural dishwasher liquids and, put succinctly, they don't work.
Yeah I know some folks just toss it in all gunked up, but I cannot believe that is good for the plumbing!
