Gino Bartali reached the heights of the glory of the road giants thanks to his talents as a climber first but also as a sprinter and a complete driver. Gino Bartali raggiunse l'apice della gloria dei giganti della strada grazie al suo talento come scalatore, ma anche come velocista e pilota completo. Senza la seconda guerra mondiale e i suoi sei anni di accantonamento di scontri ciclistici internazionali, è probabile che Iron Man avrebbe il record più ricco quando si tratta dei Grand Tour. Le strade francesi gli valgono la pena firmare un singolo exploit ancora oggi che mostra bene le qualità complete di Florentin e la longevità della sua carriera: i suoi due successi nel Tour de France furono acquisiti a dieci anni di distanza, nel 1938 e 1948. Inoltre, senza l'opposizione di Fausto Coppi - un avversario di altissima qualità - il duello in alto non avrebbe avuto luogo e il pubblico non si sarebbe mosso in massa per assistere allo scontro tra i due rappresentanti rispettivamente dell'Italia: il rurale, conservatore e cattolico per Gino il Pio e il moderno associato al boom tecnologico ed economico di Coppi.
