Locust or Mungwin Season as a Booming Business In Bambili Cameroon

in Steem Cameroon3 years ago

Greetings to all my lovely steemians, hope everyone is doing great. I took out time and research to analyse small creative businesses and I came accross this locrative business. Actually it is a seasonal business but it is the most trending in this our present time in as much as bambili Bamenda Cameroon is concern. I termed it seasonal because u will see it appears on when the time comes apart from that u will never see people in such a business. Bringing today may look funny or crazy but people that is; families, students and general public, find it as an investment activity, a form of gain, and a source of seasonal livelihood and why not an encouragement to seasonal business activities with buyers and sellers bargaining. This business known in local language as "Mungwin" and in english as locust or hopper.

. it comes once a year and falls like rain during the nights although not every night but it must fall no matter how small it falls, it is attracted by very high bright lights shining in the night or bulbs. it becomes a source of attraction to the locust which they turn to fly and follow the bulbs shining.

Mechanism of trapping and storing Locust(Mungwin)
Now a system mechanism is put in place for the collection of the locust. Firstly u build a slanty stand with local bamboos or planks and then u attached a slicing surface such as a sheets of zinc then at the bottom place collecting containers such as empty oil Cass and a bulb thats all u are set to catch locust or mungwin.

During the night or during Evening period population turns massively to catch locust they bring containers buckets and other packings to catch they masked themselves to avoid insects bites and mosquitoes during the night and days of heavy fall they can catch around 2-3 buckets of locust but they love to call it mungwin

How it is being prepared.
It need no recipe all u have to do is boil and fry without using oil cus it naturally produces oil itself after that dry under sunlight from 2-3 constant days and it after it is free to be consumed believe me when I say it taste delicious sooooo yummy and it create a lot of business opportunity as people starts selling and measuring in smaller units of 100frs to much more bigger units with a bucket costing 10 000frs - 15000frs. Now every where u pass u can see people drying out locust on flat surfaces using plywoods, bags, or any other flat surface showing how involved people are in the business

If they can't be able to sell, it they turn to store it so as to eat out of season and more. People actually obtain loans from "njangi hosuses" and financial institutions just to invest in locust business or mungwin.

In conclusion
From now till mid December everyhouse hold have to catch mungwin it lasting for a period of 2months and after that till next year again so it is the most booming business as long as it is till in season. Thanksgiving to God for such provision and thanks to @steem cameroon for giving me the opportunity to share content. And that's it for my edition I will leave u all said my prayers and go to bed.
