in Steem Africa4 years ago (edited)

Hello comrades!

In the morning after completing my small routine work in the house. I dressed up took taxi from the road side to school to meet my candidates. Today marks the last day for the BECE. In all part of Ghana where Junior High School 3 are taking their Basic Education Certificate Examination, they are completing their final paper which is social studies today.

The candidates were even in hurry to than we the teachers supporting them. When I arrived in school, they had already departed to the Exams centre. Today we were only 3 teachers, Asare, Peter and I. We couldn't even wait, we also took a taxi to meet them at the exams centre. When we reached there, we called all the candidates from various schools to pick all the litters around their environment and also led them to sweep the their exams halls. Within few minutes, the bell was ranged for them to go to assemble for short announcement, after this they were asked to move to their various classrooms. Meanwhile the paper hasn't arrived from the police station, the supervisor and the police haven't reported, but this was the invigilators own suggestions. They all complied while we the teachers also found our way very far distance.

This was 2hrs paper, so they finished all the paper exactly 11am this morning. Their food was even ready before they came. We informed them to their food, but that wasn't where their minds were, they were jubilating, dancing, singing and shouting showing that they were very happy completing Junior High School today.

After eating, the jubilation continues. All the teachers around here were very happy to join the candidates in this cheerful moment, after all we've once being students before. The candidates didn't even know what to do then. They took a lot of pictures with our Android phones.

What was worse, when they came they mixed dust water to become muddy and poured onto each other. The perception of baptizing someone after he has passed through some examination. It's part of students lives and some even go to the extent of mixing water from gutter pouring onto their friend's body. But I see it as bad practices, that was what the students were doing when we got to school. I even regretted not allowing them to sign their school selection form before this final paper. I was in hurry to go home but I had to wait for them to celebrate for a while before signing on their forms.

The jubilation then subsided, I allowed all of them to sign. They weren't ready to leave the campus but we closed the office and the class room and left them. Most of them are from the Anansu community so they were in their own territory.

We decided to walk home since the the weather was still calm, the sun was still down. On the road we met one of our past National Service personnel called Annor Stephen, it was very long time we met so we stood at the road side and chatted for a while.

I was very hungry when I arrived home, my wife and children weren't in the house. There was no food too there. I went to "Yesu Mmo" stall and bought some bread, roasted groundnut and beta Malt to take as lunch. I then relax for long day work; walking, jumping and shout with students.

Thanks to all friends who have been joining me all these while from Monday to this Friday when I was supporting my candidates to complete their Junior High School. They are free from stress of learning for a while, but would continue soon when their results are in and ready to pursue second cycle institution.
