FOLKLORE: THE TWO FRIENDS
One day intruders attacked their land sending everyone afleeing, however, Tilo and Lolo stuck together through thick and thin and wandered through the thick forest till they reached land, a strange land.
Tilo sighted a beautiful maiden and just immediately, he fell in love with her.
He approached her and began to profess his love to her, the young maiden smiled and asked Tilo to come see her father... They followed her home.
When they got to the young maiden's home, they saw her father so wasted no time in revealing their intentions.
The maiden's father laughed so hard, and told them that he is a chief and only the strong can marry his daughter.
They will be subjected to a test, as many suitors who had come all failed the test, so asked Tilo if he was willing to undergo the test. Tilo was determined, he answered in the affirmative.
The chief told Tilo all that is involved in the test that he would be locked up in a cage for seven days and seven nights with no food nor water, if he survives after the 7th day, then his daughter will be all Tilo's.
Tilo at this point became frightened, he has never been subjected to such treatment before, but out of instense love for the young maiden he decided to do it .
Tilo was locked up in a cage with no food and water, an old woman was kept to watch over him.
At thick night, Lilo came over to Tilo's cage, dug out a small hole in the wall and whispered over to Tilo.
He let a pipe through the wall filling it with coconut water, Tilo drank it till he became filled up.
On the third day, the old woman became truly amazed because no suitor managed to make it through till the third day before, and even more surprising Tilo did not appear weak.
Lilo came by every night for the seven nights and fed Tilo with coconut water.
On the D-DAY there was a great feast, it seemed like a miracle to the people.
... A SUITOR WHO SURVIVED THE TEST, kept ringing through out the village and beyond.
TILO AND THE YOUNG MAIDEN WERE GIVEN OUT IN MARRIAGE.
I love this folklore story so much, it was narrated to me many years ago by my great uncle.
Friends are treasures and sure stand up for you one in dire need.
