Fortune and Fame is Unlikely to Make You a Happier Person!
I have not been present here much recently, because I have been ill. To the best of our ability, it would seem that I have had a case of Covid-19. This is very annoying since I got the vaccine, a couple of months back, and have now become part of the "statistic" of people who are vaccinated and still got sick.
My physician and I have been discussing whether my case would have been "much worse" had I not been vaccinated. I don't really care; the situation was bad enough, as is.
Yes, I am fully recovered now, thank you... although that has taken close to three weeks.
While spending a lot of time in bed and on our couch I was also doing a lot of reading.
One of the striking consistencies in life I can't help but notice is just how many people not only go in pursuit of "fortune and fame," but also believe that fortune and fame will somehow be their ticket to happiness.
Sadly, that almost never turns out to be the case.
Whereas it is certainly nice to be able to pay for the basics of living without having to worry, beyond that er humans don't tend to get significantly happier as our wealth and "station" increases. In fact, it stays pretty much constant, while our worry levels increase.
What many people who "dream of riches" tend to forget is that such riches tend to come with a whole new set of responsibilities, decisions and worries that weren't present before.
Having material "things" may offer a temporary boost in people's mood, but don't offer deeper contentment. Soon, the "novelty" wears off and people go in search of the next fancy gadget to feel better... for a short time.
Real contentment and life satisfaction tends to come from the relationships we form and the experiences we have.
