Peter Rabbit

Let's hop like Peter Rabbit in the Hill Top's garden in Near Sawrey, England which was Beatrix Potter's home. She is an internationally famous, English writer known for her kids' books featuring clever and sometimes mischievous animals. "The Tale Of Peter Rabbit" I reckon is the most popular. "Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway" was released earlier this year. Maybe some of you have seen it?

Beatrix Potter also illustrated the books herself many of which are now exhibited in the gallery in Hawkshead.

Beatrix Potter came on holiday with her family to Cumbria and simply fell in love with the nature and wildlife which this part of North West England has to offer. So did I. Her quite posh Kensington, London family hired Wray Castle on the shores of Lake Windermere one summer and that is how it all started. Here in the Lake District Beatrix Potter made friends with the vicar of St Margaret's Church who encouraged her to publish her first book, "The Tale Of Peter Rabbit" in 1902.

Wray Castle is a spectacular estate in the Lake District.

She bought the Hill Top house I visited and it became an inspiration for many of her stories. The 17th-century farmhouse is now a National Trust property. Entry for non-members starts from £13 which gives you half an hour inside the house and unlimited time in its garden. Parking is free but pre-booking is required.

Buckle Yeat, now a guest house, is featured in many of Beatrix Potter's books including "Pie and The Patty Pan", "Pigling Bland" and "The Tale Of Tom Kitten".

The house features many personal items, plenty of which were from across the globe. She received many exotic pieces of art as gifts from family and friends who were well travelled. Others she was quite happy to buy herself at auctions in England. Surprisingly to me though, Beatrix Potter didn't like to travel. She went to Ireland once for a day and didn't even like it. The very opposite of me who finds inspiration when traveling, the further away the better.
