Viaducts and Bridgewater Canal in Castlefield Area of Manchester, UK [a photo for CITYSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY AND ART CONTEST]
The photo was taken in Castlefield area of Manchester, UK, generally considered to have been the world's first industrial city. Hence the status of Britain's first Urban Heritage Park, which was granted to Castlefield in 1982.
The big bridge structure in this photo is part of the tubular steel 1894 Great Northern Viaduct, built for the Great Northern Railway Company. The red brick construction further away is the 1849 viaduct of the Manchester, South Junction and Altrincham Railway, which also has a cast iron arch bridge. Viaducts cross the Bridgewater Canal (seen in the photo from the Staffordshire Arms water point), which was Britain's first as well as world's first industrial canal, opened for business back in 1761.
