ArtVenture Contest: Makeup for Day of the Dead

Hello Steemian friends:


I am not familiar with the celebration of Halloween. The custom of my family in Venezuela is "to illuminate" which consists of lighting candles for the dead. Also we take flowers to the graves.

However, in Mexico they have a very colorful way of putting makeup on their faces for the Day of the Dead. Thinking about that, I checked the internet and got a lot of very nice make-up. So, I was inspired to make the digital drawing that I show for this contest.

The work was extremely difficult because I am not a professional artist, neither in the traditional nor in the digital way of drawing.

Each detail corresponds to a layer of drawing that I did freehand. First I made a sketch of a face (I had already defined that I would work on a woman's face).

Then, I tried to have a center. I filled in the eyes. I located the nostril and made the lips and a scar that runs over them.

Later, I worked each eye separately. I made pupils, irises, ornaments around the eyes to simulate eye sockets. I also made details in the eyes but in the general drawing they cannot be seen.

Once the eye makeup work was finished I continued to decorate the face with figures and colors that I like. I added flowers on each side. I like strong colors so my flowers are imaginary in terms of their shape and color.

To have some balance I added more details to the face. I did the hair (what a job!!). I drew some cross earrings on the ears. I drew a flame in the nostril and signed it.

    Thank you @marcybetancourt for this digital painting that you are submitting to @art-venture contest.. I heard a lot about the Day of the Dead and that must be one of the colorful holidays that really has many people involved and I saw such kind of face painting too. Thank you for the explanation and the process steps.

      Thanks @stef1 for your words. I am not an expert in digital drawing and my works are imperfect but I am learning, and what I do has great dedication. The step by step is longer but reduces it to the most laborious images.
      I want to make another drawing for the contest but I'm still thinking about the idea. Greetings.
