Hope
Hope is a powerful thing. It inspires us to do the impossible and helps us carry on during difficult times. And hope can come in many different shapes and forms.
This photograph taken in January of last year, corresponds to the vicinity of the Minor Basilica of Santa Rosa de Lima, a Catholic temple located in the picturesque town of Santa Rosa, and which houses the image of the Divina Pastora (Divine Shepherdess), a Marian invocation that had its origin in the city of Seville at the beginning of the 18th century.
Since 1856, every January 14 and uninterruptedly, the image of the Virgin appears on the shoulders of the parishioners on a 7.5 kilometer route that leads to the Metropolitan Cathedral of Barquisimeto, in an event that usually brings together some 3.5 million people and it is considered the third busiest Marian pilgrimage in the world, behind the Virgin of Guadalupe in Mexico and the Virgin of Fatima in Portugal.
This year and as a consequence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the procession had to be suspended for the first time in its history, and instead, the various acts will be broadcast digitally by social networks and the YouTube channel of the Archdiocese of Barquisimeto, in a virtual pilgrimage that will take place between January 6 and 14.

La esperanza es algo poderoso. Nos inspira a hacer lo imposible y nos ayuda a sobrellevar los tiempos difíciles. Y la esperanza puede llegar de diferentes maneras y formas.
Esta fotografía tomada en enero del año pasado, corresponde a las adyacencias de la *Basílica Menor de Santa Rosa de Lima, un templo católico ubicado en la pintoresca población de Santa Rosa, y que alberga la imagen de la Divina Pastora, una advocación mariana que tuvo su origen en la ciudad de Sevilla a principios del Siglo XVIII.
Desde el año 1856, cada 14 de enero y de forma ininterrumpida, la imagen de la virgen sale en hombros de los feligreses en un recorrido de 7,5 kilómetros que la conduce hasta la Catedral Metropolitana de Barquisimeto, en un evento que suele congregar a unas 3,5 millones de personas y que está considerada la tercera peregrinación mariana mas concurrida del mundo, por detrás de la Virgen de Guadalupe en México y la Virgen de Fátima en Portugal.
Este año y como consecuencia de la pandemia por el Covid-19, la procesión tuvo que ser suspendida por primera vez en su historia, y en su lugar, los diversos actos serán transmitidos de forma digital por las redes sociales y el canal de YouTube de la Arquidiócesis de Barquisimeto, en una peregrinación virtual que tendrá lugar entre el 6 y el 14 de enero.
Para modificar la imagen original, empleé las herramientas de edición que ofrece la aplicación PicsArt, como lo he descrito en publicaciones anteriores. Espero que la disfruten.
