Photo contest: post processing #4 - selection of the winner

in WORLD OF XPILARlast year (edited)

It's time to sum up the results of the completed stage of the contest, started by the author @bambuka, in which the photo I provided served as the task. Then the case somehow imperceptibly turned so that I was asked to choose the winner. But I didn't mind, as I closely followed the course of the competition and got acquainted with all the submitted works.

I really, really like the original of my photo, because I knew exactly why I was doing it. That changing booth on an empty cold beach stopped me for a long time and I didn't see its true purpose anymore, because I began to fantasize looking at it.

I am not satisfied with the original only in relation to the failed exposition, and I expected from the participants that someone would read my thoughts and only slightly lighten the forest on the opposite bank behind it, so that the mysterious, actually, booth would be better read in its upper part, but the booth would continue to connect the two banks of the river with its dark mass. So that the water in the river flows by itself, and the cabin opens its essence of the portal, for transfer from one bank to another or wherever else, which can only be found out when visiting it.

Or even the way @ty-ty did it.

On the black area in the picture, I wanted to make an inscription quoting an ancient Eastern sage:

Be afraid of your desires because they are fulfilled

And not the way I thought I would do it.

Or here's what @manuelgil64 did from my original. It remains to gild the door handle a little to hint that not everything is so simple with this architectural object and it may not be what you expect from it.

Already the first sentence from the author @barski convinced me that my booth really serves as a portal if it is able to influence the viewer's imagination in such an unexpected way :).

I was looking at a series of transformations and, even before reading the text, I saw a story with an amazing and unexpected fulfillment of some of his wishes for the author himself. But after reading the text, I realized that there is another philosophical component there, which is also quite suitable for the topic of the portal I have conceived.

I confess honestly that I am not at all interested in what means someone uses to process photos and I did not invent this contest. I'm only interested in the result, not the tools to achieve it. Result and thoughts. But all the participants surprised me with their thoughts and results. It was just some kind of holiday every time I looked through another post. There were no narrow photo specialists among the authors, but they all showed themselves to be extraordinary personalities.

It's hard for me to choose the best of all the works right now. When I watch a complete series from @barsky, I highlight a picture in it that clearly tells me about the moment when his desire was voiced. Then this flash followed, swallowing the light of day and then he got a result that he did not expect. That's how I saw it at the first viewing.

I also liked this work from the author @esthersanchez, because the picture is in tune with my own thoughts about this object.

I was also surprised that the author @evagavilan managed to build from a dozen planks taken from the booth, although the task was completely different. But the fact that most of you are free from conventions and cliches is exactly what I like.

Now I know that you can build a blind fence out of a beach cabin, as @weisser-rabe did, because that's what she needed.

For some reason, it was the extraordinary solutions in the task of postprocessing a seemingly ordinary and not very successful photo that attracted attention. An association game that was not announced.

But I accepted this game and now I can safely announce its winner. The first and only prize allocated by the organizer of the contest will be awarded to the participant
@barski

You are welcome 🖐️ 😊

Thank you very much, I share your passion to look for extraordinary objects, or plots in the most ordinary places, where it seems that nothing interesting can be a priori.

Be afraid of your desires because they are fulfilled

I did not know this wisdom, and so I lived my own which could be pronounced in a very similar way:

Be careful with wishes and desires because they might get real.

But this I only say to myself and to no one else.

The essence of this recommendation from the sage is that wishes are never fulfilled in the form in which it is drawn to the one who wishes. Usually a fulfilled wish is followed by disappointment or even tragedy. I've only recently started to understand how it works. That this is indeed the case. Some doors should not be rushed to open when they beckon.

The essence of this recommendation from the sage is that wishes are never fulfilled in the form in which it is drawn to the one who wishes.

I thought this to be meant, and I agree in this experience, but I do not agree in having fear. Instead I took a look on my wishes and desires since I am the one to give them their shapes and colours.

Beyond this I presume that the Eastern sage's words may have been poorely translated into English or not precisely given from mouth to mouth. So I should not have looked so much on the words, maybe.

In sum, I do not wish to have no more wishes.

I don't want to either. I hope the translation is correct. This sage has been familiar to me for a long time from his writings and he said a lot of useful things in the same way. Renunciation of desires is progress, not degradation). This is also protection against manipulation, which some people apply to others for their own purposes.

I hope the translation is correct.

I did not mean your translation but from the ancient Eastern language.

This sage has been familiar to me for a long time from his writings

This is interesting for me in two regards:
First, I suppose: so you will know the name. Would you please tell it?
Second, "writings" decrease the various interpretations as they might easier occur in oral tradition.

Renunciation of desires

... is in my eyes far away from that what I meant by careful wishing. This may be a trick of the eye, I have to think on it. It depends on the difference between renunciation and canalisation, the difference between avoiding and taming. Or so.

his name is Confucius. But the text itself, in the context of which I read it from him, I cannot provide now. It was a long time ago and I don't remember exactly where. I need time to go back and find.

Thanks!
I supposed it to be him, the Master Kong.

protection against manipulation

This is a wide field, a giantic scope. Too much for me at the moment.

Congratulations @barski, the simplicity and lighting brought your entry to life aptly.

Congratulations barski, the big winner of this contest! I appreciate your comment related to my work @lllllll1ll! Happy night!
