Hatch Painting Pikachu and Ash Ketchum

Back when I was little I saw Pokemon but not as a fanboy. It was just some quick Sunday glance at the screen. I mostly even didn't understand most of the stuff I watched.

Over the past four yeas I have made various drawings from the Pokemon set. Some I have repeated (like the subject of today) and some I only did once.

I was torn between the choice of making the obvious background but then resolved to my signature black. I tried leaving some areas unshaded to portray depth and blend with the background too.
How well do you feel this piece.
