HOW TO DRAW? #2| Digging starts here...

in WORLD OF XPILAR3 years ago (edited)

Last time we have made an introduction to this series and discussed some very basic daily practicing tips for drawing. I would suggest you to visit my first post before reading this one. You can find it here - HOW TO DRAW?#1| Introduction| - Basic tips to improve skills on freehand sketching.

So first of all let's have some additional tips to think about in additional to the previous discussion.

  • Draw daily
This is just an reminder for keep practicing, doesn't mean that you need to make drawings of detailed views and perfection. Keep in touch with your artistic hobbies, make a move with the tools like pencils at least once in every day. Try to sketch your world around.
  • Don't be afraid of mistakes.
Mistakes are normal in our way. No body is perfect or ideal in anything. But mistakes make you more concentrate in your next move. So love mistakes.
  • Use evry resources.
Don't wait for getting the exact references as you need always. Use every resources like websites, youtube videos, screenshots while watching movies, daily day views, pictures in your gallery, the world around you itself is the real reference for an artist.
  • Finding your style.
I have a little more flexible view about this tip in actual. The drawing style would be different for different persons. It will take time to be in a track. The references of great artists, trying different styles would help you find one for your own. But after getting in one track trying new styles is nice but try to switch into different styled is not so recommended.
  • Try different tools and mediums.
Sticking with one medium for an example watercolour or pencil would make you more perfect in that aspect. But art is about exploring. So trying every medium you could have access would help you get more flexible.
  • Be patient.
Patience is an important thing to maintain for any artist. Don't worry if your work is not improving keep practicing. Be patient. You will find a way to open your set of skills ultimately.

Materials and mediums in art

The truth behind this part is in actual there is no restriction for materials and medium for art. We could make our style of art in any medium with any tools.
But there are some normal tools and mediums universally used for doing art works probably you might already known about.

Some of them are...
Pencil drawings, Pen art, Doodle art, Charcoal art, Watercolour paintings, Poster colours, Oil pastel, Colour pencils, Crayon, Sketch pens, Watercolour brushes, Spray paintings, Wall art - Graffiti, Acrylic medium, Prisma colour pencils, Oil painting, Digitalpainting, Animation and 3d art...

Art Rules

You might had come across hearing thse before like Rules like The Golden Rules of Composition
by Pierre Bonnard, or Loomis figure rules etc. But in my opinions art doesn't limit with any of the rules. These can be take as proposals or opinions from great artists but non of them are not mandatory for any artists. These opinions could make to find a specific way to go through for beginner artists who are wandering so confused in this artistic world.

Art is a way for representing an idea. Like a communication way. These could be of any form. The ultimate aim of it is to convey the idea inside a mind to others with some perspective views ofcourse.

Quality of material

When we make a portrait using pencils, we could use the materials of top brands which claims to be of high quality or just use normal tools of lower prices. Like using pencils of high price instead of lower one. In any medium we could have these two options.
The thing is the quality gives us easiness in use of them and help us getting more professional result. You would notice it if you try in bothe variations. But whatever quality of material you use, whatever the prices are of them, the only thing matters ultimately is your talents. And a little more practicing would also help in improving it.

Horizon - The end of the start

Every drawing has a horizon. If we explain it in a normal view by a normal human it could be the farthest line at which we assume the sky and sea level meets.

.

For a drawing we take every object in relative to an eye level which is in other words we calls horizon. It varies its position with respect our perspective before drawing.
But once fixed our camera eyes and took the drawing photo by it then it becomes fixed. It can lie above or below on our paper.

The 3 Dimensions

It is not so known in actual that how many real dimensions are existing in this universe. For the easiness of use and better understanding we always discuss the 3 dimensions.

This is represented as 1D-one dimension, which represents a line, 2D-two dimension, representing a plane and 3D- the third dimension, which is how we see.

Here is a 3D view of an an object represented in 2d planes given below.

We could represent the 3d object in planes like a mix of side, top and front views. This technique is actually used mostly by architects. The top view is called plan and front/side view are elivation. The maps of plants, plans of buildings are usually made with the help of this technique.

Perspectives of viewing

This is a really helpful thing in drawing. We can show our painting or sketches which is creating in a 3d view, using different perspectives for better understanding. There are more perspective views but here we explains first three.
One point perspective
The sketch I shown in the first part of this article is actually made in one point perspective methode. We could find that every objects in that landscape is diverging from a point. Or the end of evry object streching into a point in the horizon.
This mode of representation is called one point perspective. This is the easiest way among the whole.

For this, first fix a point on your paper. The horizon will be passing through this point too. Then draw objects looks like emerging from this point as shown here.
Then draw as many lines as you needed, passing through this line. The crossing lines here should be straights lines perpendicular to the point.

Two point perspective
This is done similar to the first method. The difference is here we use two point and draws lines through each points.
Here the crossing vertical lines of objects should be parallel to each other and perpendicular to straight line passing through both points. The horizon will be the line connecting both points.

Here a 2 point perspective drawing for better understanding of how landscapes made using this technique.

Three point perspective
This is more advances than the last two. Here we use three points in a plane to represent the view. The sketching made on the lines passing through these points. This representation gives more beaty to the drawing.
This makes the drawing look like having more 3d feature on it.

Here is a three point perspective view of a building.

The four point perspective is done similar to this. But a little complicated to draw and understand. In that we use curved lines instead of straight ones in the other perspectives. This gives more dramatic looks for the drawing like a bulging effect for the drawings.

We humans are actually seeing the world around us in these perspectives. But we didn't notice it until we give some attention to our eyes.
We could see places in any perspective as we wanted. For example looking at a straight railway line standing on its axis makes you feel like the rails are converging to a point.

If you stands up just below a very high building you might feel like the top of the building is going to fall on you like it is not staight up. This is three point category.

We see landscapes in 2 point view when you watch it from a long distand point.

Give some attention when you see things, observe the world around. Try to sketch it. Feel the art behind everything...

There is a lot of hard work and research behind this one. I hope @steemcurator01 would have a moment to read this post.

Very good educational material, which took a lot of effort to create, but was underestimated and not in demand. It is sad.
I am the curator of the newcomer support program for the WORLD OF XPILAR community you have joined. As you know, this community is organized for artists and photographers. Many people try to draw in it, but do not have high enough skills and knowledge in this area. Within the framework of the program, two series of drawing master classes were organized from two different masters. Now the cycles of their studies have been completed. Perhaps they will continue their themes in the future.
I see you have pedagogical abilities and good knowledge, skills and drawing skills. If you have such a desire, I can suggest that you conduct a series of drawing master classes as part of the program. This is when you create a post with a master class, and I make an announcement and fix it in the community feed for a week to attract participants.

The format of the master classes can be found, for example, at the link above. This post has links to previous masterclasses with topics.
I am waiting for your decision.

I know there master classes going on, and its an honor to have a proposal like this from people like you.
I would like to take a class as I am doing a series by my own.

But I fear the lack of experience in using English language would be a trouble for me. I would like to make a session for the masterclass series but ypu have to check it first and make the announcement only after validating it. Or else I could post it my own.
Otherwise if the quality if the content I will be making won't meet your expectations, I fear it will affect the credibility of our community.

my native language is Russian and I also use a translator. There are mistakes in some expressions, but in general the meaning is always clear. There is no need to be afraid of this. I think you will have good master classes. We can discuss the features of this process in the discord.

Okey

Actually I thought a lot about your offer. But sorry to say this I am a self taught artist and so I lack the academic knowledge in the field of art unlike other experts. Most of the skills I earned from my experiences. But now I am in the learning stages, more concentrated. Posts like these are a part of these studies.
So I would like to do some classes in future when I feel more confident, but no offense for your offer.

Once again thanks for contacting me. I hope you will allow me to do classes in future. Till then let stay connected in good touch.
Let me know if you are okay with that.

While acquiring your skills, you probably paid attention to academic sources of information. I read your post and found a lot of useful things for myself. Like about three perspectives. Here we do not have an academy and we do not plan to issue artist diplomas at the end of a series of master classes :).

Rather, it is assumed that the master is sharing his practical experience. So, I think your experience is enough for this job. Do not rush to conclusions, we are in no hurry anywhere.

Of course, the decision is up to you and I do not insist on anything. My attitude towards you does not depend on your decision. I see you as an artist, a responsible and honest person, and the rest does not matter.
I wish you success and good growth in your skills.
