The diary game [22/11/2020] - Strategies to keep the house warm [Eng / Ita]

Winter has arrived and our boiler is broken.
It is needless to say how important are the small things (and great inventions) to which we are now accustomed and to which consequently we tend to give little importance.
I will omit the story of the various problems we had with the technician, who was not only unable to fix the boiler, but even created further problems that made it necessary to completely replace the boiler itself (we obviously chose to change technician, which will cost us some extra money and a few more days of waiting to get the house heated again, but in the hope of having found a more competent boiler operator).
Taking a cold shower in winter is rather sad, although there are those who prefer to do it like this all year round. It is also sad to touch the radiators and find them frozen, or to have to wear layers upon layers of sweaters to warm up a little.
Certain events evoke characters and stories such as that of the little match girl, leading to even more important reflections that are too often taken for granted.
Having a warm house is fortunate : we could be born when heating had not yet been invented, or we could be born in a corner of the world where having it is still a matter of luxury; we may have it but we can't afford to pay the bills.
In this period, when the economy is at a standstill and more and more families are struggling to make ends meet, the cold is a huge problem. Of course it is a huge problem also the climate change due to our constant desire to manage the temperature of indoor environments, but go and explain it to a person who is dying of cold.

There are countless posts online on how to heat your home while polluting as little as possible, while also saving on bills.
I make a small summary of some strategies that anyone, without too much effort, could adopt:

• Try to insulate windows and doors to avoid excessive drafts. There are some small tricks that economically allow you to get around the problem without having to resort to specialists. For example, you can put rolled up blankets or padded draft excluders in front of the door; or intervene directly on the drafts using insulating foam rubber edges or silicone.
• If you have window shutters, keep them down when it is dark outside. Use opaque curtains on the windows to reduce the heat exchange between inside and outside.
• Indulge yourself with carpets on the floor, to reduce heat loss.
• Do not keep the heating on for too long in order to avoid excessively drying the environment, and do not set excessively high temperatures: 20 degrees is more than enough. If possible, automate the heating so that the house is warm in the moments of greatest need, also avoiding forgetting to turn off the heating.
• Keep rooms that are not used or that never heat up closed.

What strategies do you use to keep the house warm?

E' arrivato l'inverno ed a noi si è rotta la caldaia.
E' inutile dire quanto siano importanti le piccole cose (e grandi invenzioni) a cui oramai siamo abituati ed alle quali di conseguenza si tende a dare poca importanza.
Vi tralascio il racconto sui vari problemi che abbiamo avuto con il tecnico, il quale non solo è stato incapace di aggiustarla, ma ha addirittura creato ulteriori problemi che hanno reso necessaria la totale sostituzione della caldaia stessa (abbiamo ovviamente scelto di cambiare tecnico, cosa che ci costerà qualche soldo in più e qualche giorno in più di attesa per tornare ad avere la casa riscaldata, ma nella speranza di aver trovato un caldaista più competente).
Fare la doccia fredda d'inverno è piuttosto triste, sebbene c'è chi preferisce farla così tutto l'anno. E' triste anche toccare i termosifoni e trovarli ghiacci, o dover indossare strati su strati di maglioni per scaldarsi un po'.
Certi eventi rievocano personaggi e storie come quella della piccola fiammiferaia, portando a riflessioni ancor più importanti che troppo spesso vengono date per scontate.
Avere la casa calda è una fortuna: potremmo essere nati in un secolo in cui il riscaldamento non era ancora stato inventato, oppure essere nati in un angolo del mondo in cui averlo è ancora questione di lusso; potremmo averlo ma non poterci permettere di pagare le bollette.
In questo periodo, in cui l'economia è ferma e sempre più famiglie stentano ad arrivare a fine mese, il freddo è un problema enorme. Certo lo è anche il cambiamento climatico dovuto al nostro continuo desiderio di gestire la temperatura degli ambienti interni, ma andatelo a spiegare ad una persona che sta morendo di freddo.

Ci sono innumerevoli post online su come riscaldare la casa inquinando il meno possibile, risparmiando anche sulle bollette.
Faccio un piccolo sommario di alcune strategie che chiunque, senza troppi sforzi, potrebbe adottare:

• Cercare di isolare al meglio finestre e porte per evitare eccessivi spifferi. Ci sono alcuni piccoli accorgimenti che permettono economicamente di aggirare il problema senza dover ricorrere a degli specialisti. Si può ad esempio mettere di fronte alla porta delle coperte arrotolate o dei paraspifferi imbottiti; o intervenire direttamente sugli spifferi utilizzando dei bordini isolanti in gommapiuma o del silicone.
• Se si hanno le tapparelle alle finestre, tenerle abbassate quando fa buio. Utilizzare delle tende coprenti alle finestre, così da ridurre lo scambio termico tra interno ed esterno.
• Sbizzarrirsi con tappetti sul pavimento, per ridurre la dispersione del calore.
• Non tenere il riscaldamento acceso troppo a lungo per evitare di seccare eccessivamente l'ambiente, e non impostare temperature eccessivamente alte: 20 gradi sono più che sufficienti. Se possibile, automatizzare il riscaldamento così di avere la casa calda nei momenti di maggior bisogno, evitando anche di dimenticare di spengere il riscaldamento.
• Tenere chiuse le stanze che non si utilizzano o che non si scaldano mai.
