Bangladesh Under Severe Flood

in Italylast month

The flood situation in Bangladesh has significantly worsened, particularly in the southeastern districts like Feni, Cumilla, Noakhali, and parts of Habiganj and Moulvibazar. Continuous heavy rainfall and the overflow of rivers, compounded by the release of water from dams in neighboring India, have left over 1.5 million people stranded.

In Feni, districts such as Parshuram and Fulgazi are among the hardest hit, with entire communities submerged and cut off due to flooded roads and power outages. The relentless rise in river water levels has severely impacted livelihoods, especially in rural areas where agricultural lands have been inundated.

Cumilla is also facing severe flooding, exacerbated by the overflow of the Gumti and Muhuri rivers. The situation is dire, with water levels continuing to rise and more rain expected in the coming days. Local authorities have set up shelters in schools to accommodate displaced people, but the scale of the disaster is overwhelming the region's capacity to respond effectively.

The flooding highlights significant vulnerabilities in Bangladesh's disaster preparedness and infrastructure, pointing to a need for improved early warning systems and more resilient flood management strategies to cope with the increasing frequency of such extreme weather events.
