A Jungle Swimming Adventure in Vietnam

There’s something about mountain streams that feels so pure. Maybe it’s the sound of the water rushing over the rocks, or the feeling of the cool water washing over your skin. Whether you’re hiking in the mountains or just visiting for a day, it's magical.

Swimming in mountain streams is unlike any experience I’ve ever had. There’s an awareness that you are getting closer to something extraordinary, and when you get to the spot, you are awed.

You may not be able to see the entire mountain range that is towering over you on the other side of the stream, but you can feel it .Streams are a part of something much, much bigger.

Last Sunday (5/2/2021) I was invited to join a few friends on one outing to such a mountain stream. I was very excited to go. I was so excited to go that I didn't pay attention to that feeling, I was feeling well enough to go. but the moment I was sucked it up and said okay.

My good friend @trangbaby (* she is the rock star who knows, all the locals who know of these great places). @trangbaby was kind enough and awesome enough to be Mr. @kooza's holder on the motorbike ride to the location.

Our goal was the location at :
15.877140982382949, 107.95153926337753

It would be about an hour drive on the bikes.

The day started at 5:35 AM

With the sun coming up took the puppy out for a quick walk then packed a bag for the afternoons adventure. The goal was to meet all the other adventure goers at a coffee shop linkup and then head out.

5:33 am is too early

The most wonderful @trangbaby showed up at about 7 AM, she had packed food and was ready for adventure. A side note if you don't know her you should follow her on Hive (https://peakd.com/@trangbaby).

@trangbaby and @kooza and I all piled onto the motorbike and off we went.

The coffee place everyone was going to link up at was called "1986 coffee", here is its Location : https://goo.gl/maps/un9ddFSjuwoAKddE8

We had some coffee while waiting for one else to arrive.

Being the professionals that we are, we did arrive about half an hour or 40 minutes early! So there was some time with us just sitting around.

My my Kooza, what a big nose you have... lol

TrangBaby and Kooza

Eventually everybody started to show up and our adventure crew formed. Everyone had a few cups of coffee to get pumped up for the ride. We even had another HIVE member join us, @babeltrips! NICE!

@babeltrips trying to resist giving @kooza Coffee

With everyone finally assembled our team was ready to go and hit the road, we of course grabbed a group photo, and a selfie on the bike before heading out.

After about an hour drive we stopped at a small convenient stored get juice, beer and ice as we were close to the river. The owner was very happy to see the puppy dog!

a short ride between maybe five or 10 minutes, we were in a grassy field that was very different from the highways we used to get here. We would drive down this road into the mountains and then down some sandy foot path to get to our final parking space.

can't you hear the wind rustling

Kooza had such a blast running up ahead being the leader of the pack.

Instead of walking up and over the boulders along the river, we took the path along the ridge then hiked into the swimming hole we were going to. This was probably the best idea considering that my puppy dog has really short legs and was not built to do good bouldering.

we passed a few other people coming back the river gave us some tips on the best way to get down, or at least I think so... My Vietnamese is not that good.

20210502_101126.jpg

There were a couple of sketchy places to walk over, such as this little cliff side parkour action, we all managed to do it fairly well.

This photo is a lie, looks like there's no water however between these rocks their endless little pools to go swimming.

20210502_101935.jpg

We ended up making encampment at a nice little shady area flat rock, places to swim above us and below us.

Kooza also unpacked is water bowl had a big drink.

20210502_102727.jpg

The Epic @trangbaby also brought a bunch of fruit along with her. This should make for a delightful afternoon meal a little later on.

20210502_103133.jpg

Albeit a bit hesitantly, we all eventually got our way into the mountain stream and enjoyed the many small waterfalls!

At this point the day I started to feel a bit less well, little did I know but the next day I'd be deathly ill. Remember how to start of this post was mementioned that "I should probably stay home", well that reason became more apparent. lol

Everyone went up and had a nice big lunch of fruit and some the local Vietnamese guys cooked some delicious meat.

@kooza got his drink on as well and kicked back a few brews, he's quite the "party animal". Hahahaha.

just kidding his nose sniffing food, not drinking beer... it just is a perspective trick that makes it looks like he is drinking

After this was nap time, The sun was pre-much above us at about 12:30 or 1, Personally I found myself a nice flat rock and through down my towel and slept for bit as my head needed that rest.

Putting down my head, it felt mildly better, I looked up, I missed home much I enjoyed sitting in the woods looking through leaves as light streams in, through the dense jungle canopy, a few pictures of the trees above me.

30 minutes later people started doing a bit of venturing I want to go see what they were pointing out, it was a bit of a chore to get myself up as my body was telling me to stay resting, following them up stream a bit was a nice big swimming hole with more rocks to jump off of. Every bit of me wanted to start leaping and playing and having fun, my head of my body were shutting down, quite literally.

It was still nice to see people having fun ... I want to go back and swim here again!

At this point in the day the team sort of broke up, well... I should say they kept on exploring up the river. For myself, I taped out and remained at a base camp to rest and watch people's gear because I needed it. Totally felt a high fever coming over me.

They were gone for about hour and 1/2 they we will bit more so I laid there wth @kooza, took a few photos and naped.

20210502_142401.jpg

While one hand I feel as though I missed a great adventure going up the river the rest of the way, as when they came back they told me of a big waterfall and awesome swimming areas. Inside I was sad but happy that they went. Sometimes I don't like it being sick... Well, never really.

When they got back we packed up pretty quick and headed up and out to head back to town. We also left it as a no waste / no trace. A major we picked up the rest of a cigarette butts or trash that remain like caps from beer. We should Leave nature as pristine as we found it, if not better!

20210502_154946.jpg

The walk down the path wasn't as bad as walking up it seems, and wild nature in the distant mountains were beautiful look at I kept dreading riding the bike home.

20210502_160926.jpg

There is a picture made dreading, our thinking, or just looking out at the mountains on the side... IDK.

20210502_160936.jpg

We rode out through the same grass fields that we came in through but stopped for a short photo before heading back to town.

Not going to lie, it was a hard ride back to the hour someone minutes it took us to get back to the main city. @trangbaby I think I deal with me being a bit grumpy (* sort of felt like I was about to die). But we managed to make it back and everyone got home safe and happy!

On Monday, the next day however I woke up splitting headaches and pain, that only got worse, Monday night was a wild horror show, with wicked fever dreams, shaking, sweating, my mind felt like it was flipped upside down then stepped on... and on Tuesday the high fever ravaged on, Wednesday I was actually able to stand up and walk around a bit, Thursday is able to go get food felt like a can live again... But here it is Friday now... I still feel him echo of it but I'm better. Hahahaha... no funny.. but funny.

Also, it also seems like were going into a new Covid-19 lockdown here in Danang several new cases were reported, so. Woot! :/ not.

Thanks take the time to read hope you found this article somewhat enjoyable.

Till next time, much love.
